I figured Id bump this one up, and update my list.

Went to see Skeletonwitch and Cannibal Corpse on Apr.22. I hung out with Skeletonwitch after the show for quite awhile. Those guys are really cool. I also met George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher after the show. Hes really cool and down to earth.

I went last nite to see DANZIG and Gorgeous Frankenstein. It was a really good show. DANZIG was great. He has been on the top of my list to go see for awhile now. Gorgeous Frankenstein was really cool as well. I wish I had some pics to share, but they wouldn't allow cameras.

Myself with Corpsegrinder.

Quote from: maxwellwedge on March 30, 2010, 09:23:16 AMTry finding some Roy Buchanon - Paige and Beck called him the best unknown guitarist in the world.

Talk about bringing back memories. Thank you, maxwellwedge.

I got to see Roy when I was living in Santa Barbara in 1988. Even then he was known as "The Best Unknown Guitarist in the World". He was completely stoned for the show, had flashes of brilliance, but was a disappointment. He hanged himself just a month later. A lot of artists are more famous dead than alive, instead he just disappeared. A very sad person and life.

Went to see Jeff Beck for only the 2nd time last Thursday & saw an opening band that was really great. Never heard of them, (Imelda May) but apparently Jeff Beck did & insisted the lead singer be on his upcoming album which is now out. They had a combination of sounds, but most was close to "Rockabilly" & even covered an Elvis Presley song. Aside from sounding really good, the singer is also easy on the eyes. Can anyone say "Hot Rod Pin-Up"?  :D

I went and saw KISS at the Indiana State Fair Monday night.  They sounded fantastic. We had seats in the third row, floor, center section.  Not sure how I could get much better.  Here are just a few pictures.

I guess I did not think anything about it.  It was sold out, over 15,000 people and the show was great.  I saw them a few months ago in Detroit at Cobo Hall, and that show was sold out too.  It is not like they can not still sell tickets, I think they were just trying something different.  Or maybe Gene had a craving for a deep fried Snickers bar.  ;)

Lol...I was gonna say something along those lines.

Who's in the band nowadays besides Gene and Paul anyway? I kinda lost track (or stopped caring, either way) sometime in the late 90's after I went through a brief period of KISS mania (like every teenage male that's into rock does at some point or another).

Eric Singer on drums and Tommy Thayer on guitar.  Tommy has been around the band for years and even played guitar on the Psycho Circus album about 10 years ago, even though Ace is credited.  He would also fill in when Ace was to stinking drunk to play in concert. Tommy officially took over in 2002 when Ace was shown the door, again. Eric joined KISS in 1991.  He left the band for a couple years while Peter Criss joined the band again.  When Peter was fired for a second time, Eric joined the band again.  To be honest, Eric and Tommy can run circles around Ace and Peter.

probably, but if you're talking about musical skills, no one in KISS was ever really any good and that's not what the band was/is about anyway. Their music is mediocre at best and their studio records sound like crap. Their appeal has always been more about the live shows, and the make up, and the explosions. That's why the best selling records are the ALIVE albums...cuz at least you get to imagine that you're there seeing all that stuff.

I agree with you that KISS's main appeal has been their live show.  However, I do not think people are going to attend a concert when the music is "mediocre at best".  I mean they are still selling out shows.  Yes they have some cheese ball lyrics here and there, but I do think they have a lot of good songs.  I also agree KISS has never been at the top when is comes to musicians.  They have had a few "good" musicians but not really any great talent, with the exception of two drummers.  Through the eighties Eric Carr was considered one of the best drummers out there.  When Eric passed they were lucky enough to get Eric Singer.  Eric Singer still today is a very strong drummer, and can hold his own with todays top drummers. Just my opinion.
