Grand Cherokee for DD?

I looked at a 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited today, & I really like it.  It's Shale Green Metallic with Agate interior, sunroof, 4wd, 4.0L, 116k miles.  Guy is asking $5440.  According to KBB the private party value of the truck in good condition is $4575.  I know he won't go that low.  It has probably less than normal wear & tear for a 9 year old car.  Hard to tell because it was dirty (who tries to sell a dirty car?). Tires are about 50%, I think it needs a new driver side motor mount.  One of the headlights needs replaced, as it is extremely foggy.  The other side is new.  Other than that, I found nothing wrong with it.  I was considering going up to $5k for it.  Any opinions?

Other than that small 12 hour job, my spouse had one and it was sweet!  MPG was 17 around town and 21 on the highway.

I just bought a '99 with 104,000 miles and, with taxes and tags, it was just shy of $6,000. I'm happy with it and feel it was a fair price.

We did have a '99 Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.0L that we bought new and I had no complaints with it. It would get around 16mpg around town and 20-21 on the highway. I also pulled our 3000lb speedboat with no problems. My wife wanted a car so we traded it in but I finally got her back in a Jeep a couple years ago. This time we got a Limited with a Hemi and the mileage is about the same or a little better with MDS system.

Great vehicle for a DD. Very comfortable!

I had a '99 4.7L Ltd for 5yrs, & luved it. The 4.7L got as much as 22mpg highway, & w/3.73's it "felt" quick. I sold it almost 3 yrs ago w/100k & only got $5700. I wouldn't give $5k, maybe closer to $4k. GC's are great vehicles IMO. The WJ is the last of the solid front axle GC's.

A couple years ago I bought my wife a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for Christmas (a total surprise).  Anyway,  she absolutely loves it.  The Jeep is fully loaded with the 5.9L.  It gets horrible gas mileage, but we could not care less.  I did have to do the blend doors as they did break.  I have also had to replace both front power window motors, and a headlight lens as they will fog up on you.  My wife just loves it.

The biggest engine available in the WJ 99'-04' GC is the 4.7L. 98' ZJ was the only yr of the 5.9L. http://www.wjjeeps.com/engine.htm

Looked at a '00 Laredo yesterday...leather, sunroof, about as loaded as a Laredo came, but had the 4.0L (which is what I want).  108k miles, had the dealership talked down to $4400.  I asked him to take a look at a slight noise I heard while driving...bad transfer case  :brickwall: ...that's a no-go.  I really liked that truck, it's a shame.  The search continues.

bull

My brother has an '05 that he really likes. It gets decent mileage with the cylinder cutout deal and he drives the pi$$ out of it as a salesman. He can't smoke the tires like I can in my '03 Durango though. Heh, heh. Traction control is no fun.

If you check any w/QuadraTrac or QuadraDrive, make sure you test the 4WD(spin/rotate the tires). They use clutches to engage, make sure they aren't burnt up. GL.

That is correct.  Before purchasing ours I stumbled across a few with bad transfer cases that the owner never mentioned.  To be honest I do not think they knew they were bad.
