I am trying to mock up a dial indicator to my new Lakewood bellhousing with not much success does anybody have some pics of the alignment tool they made?

What exact location on the flywheel do you mount the dial indicator anyway? As close to the center as possible?

I purchased a magnetic base and dial indicator from Harbor frieght and its not working out too well.

Well there's your problem.  Great thing about Harbor Freight is that you never have to clean anything you get from there.  You just use once, and it's destroyed.  You're measuring thousandth's of an inch.  Good mounts usually cost more to several times more than the indicator itself.  The mount needs to be rock steady.  I haven't done a bellhousing, but I'm sure it doesn't matter where on the crank the indicator is mounted.

you do not need a special tool. just a dial indicator and magnetic base for it.
