After reading Dans story about his car catching on fire http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,57665.0.html  , it got me to wondering what type of extinguisher is best to use?

  What options do we have?

Halon, if you can afford it. Puts out electric or gas fires without leaving a powdery residue. I never go anywhere without mine. Halon is more expensive because sales are very limited due to the Montreal Protocol which determined that Halon damages the ozone layer. It was primarily used for computer servers  and sensitive electrical rooms.

From Graingers catalogue:

A halon fire extinguisher contain a gas that interrupts the chemical reaction that takes place when fuels burn. This type of fire extinguisher is often used to protect valuable electrical equipment since they leave no residue. A halon fire extinguisher has a limited range, usually 4 to 6 feet.

Do a search on fire extinguishers and it will come up on a lot of threads.  Various opinions on the subject but good info.

# No new agent 1301 is being manufactured
# You should plan the replacement of your systems with a halon alternative.

Chris,  I have a few more Halon extinguishers if you can't find it.  ;)

I even have one that is about 40lbs.  You will not loose that one.  :icon_smile_big:
