hey guys, need to know if a 2wd truck 4 speed would fit in my charger, and if not what would need to be modified, i can get a rebuilt one super cheap so i need to know fast.
thanks for any help!

There's an old adage that says "you can put anything in anything" but in this case why would you want to?

The truck 4-speeds of that era were huge and had the "granny" first gear which is pretty useless in a car.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

well first, i want a 4 speed bad and dont have much to spend on putting one in.  i had heard that a 71 2wd truck 4 speed is the same as an early b body 4 speed, i dont mind the granny gear thing and id be able to get the tranny for $75 and its been rebuilt so its alot cheaper than any other 833 ive seen. why would it be heavier if they are the same? anyway thanks for any further input!

oh and by the way, this was originally bolted to a 360, and thats what a have in my car currently so bellhousing should be the same also right?

well after alot of web searching, i think i found my answer. the 1971 trucks use a np435 transmission, i was under the impression that it was a a833 like in the cars. so i guess it wouldnt work

They are physically much larger, and as stated before, truck gear ratios, not enjoyable to drive anyway. I'd keep my eye open for a good 833  :Twocents:
