i have just about accuired all of the parts i need for the 4 speed conversion. i need about 20 dollars worth of clips and springs and a clutch. but that is the easy stuff.......

2 questions.

1- do the 833's take standard 80w-90 or should i run a synthethic lube in it?
2- my car is an auto, i rebuilt the motor over 8 years ago. i put a remanned crank in it so i have no idea about the pilot bushing. i have read that there could be big problems with this as far as size of the hole and not being machined enough for a pilot bushing. what am i looking for and what is the procedure for using the larger diameter needle bearing that has you cut off a 1/2 inch of the input shaft?

Rolling_Thunder

you can run standard gear lube....       no need for synthetic

If your crank isn't drilled for the pilot bushing you can use a pilot bushing adaptor.

The end of the input shaft may have to be cut down.

the bearing from brewers is what i was refering to. so i just press that bearing into the torque converter cut out and knock a half inch off the input shaft? sounds too easy??  even if my crank is cut properly i like the idea of the needle bearing better

i just switched from a 75-90 gear oil to redline mtl and i will tell you it made a world of differance.  ive heard VERY good things of penzoil synchromesh.   i cant stress enough how much better the redline oil is than the stuff i had in it.      synthetic oils can be ran in a manual tranny IF it is formulated for the synchro's.  royal purple and amsoil both make lube thats suposed to be good, but if your looking for a budget lube give the synchomesh a try  you can get it for 6 bucks a quart at autozone

ok cool, another question came up.

what is the purpose of the over center spring on the clutch pedal? if there is a shift fork spring on the fork and bellhousing then what is the one on the clutch pedal for? i am used to cable or hydraulic clutches, not mechanical...lol  :brickwall:

Mick70RR

The over centre spring on the clutch pedal assists operation of the clutch. I tried driving my car without it and it was hard work. It's only used with Borg and Beck style clutches, remove it if you fit a diaphram type clutch else the spring will hold the pedal on the floor.
