This is the FY1 yellow benchseat project superbird thats currently on ebayBack sometime in the 80-s .It was bugging me as I recalled seeing that same vin somewhere else besides on ebay .This also provides a timeline as back in the day .I assume the car had a front nose damage commonly occured back in the day with no bumper .And was cheaper to change the nose clip.Back in the day I went to look at a similar color superbird with satellite front end.And Im pretty sure its the same car .Going to see if I can contact 2 known earliest owners to trackdown paperwork perhaps

We did that to one back in 1977. A flight instructor at the airport owned it and went airborne over some railroad track and smashed up the nose bad. Actually the front clip was from a 70 Belvedere and the hood and grill from a wrecked RR. It was B7 blue 440 4 bbl car. Bought new in Norfolk, Va.

Always wondered what happened to it.

Don't overlook the fact that many dealers "converted" Superbirds to roadrunners to get them off the lots!  They weren't a really popular sales item.  It was easier and cheaper for the dealer to slap a frontend on than it was to keep the sales flop on the lot...

I think the number of conversions is much-much lower than youve been led to believe.

Ive only seen one conversion.

Seller owns wingedwarriorbodyparts dot com, makes me wonder

nascarxx29

I dont make assumptions or wonder about a car because the guy sells reproduction parts for the same type car.As Ive been around these car since I was 13.I validate a car by experience knowing where and what to look for.If a particular car has these merits such as#matching driveline door vin 1/4 vin and its own unique superbird vin .Along with the registrys that can back up a cars history and known prior wingcar ownership. Then I have no reservations.Fender tag / buildsheet provided options and a B30 and 976-977 job number. And the way a certain car was built and optioned :Twocents:

Ted has owned more than one original wingcar. Does that make you wonder as well?
Where do you think he got the original parts to make the molds for his repro parts?
I've owned several of his repro parts and they were pretty darn nice. Kind of looked like they were copies of original parts and not copies of copies like some of the other guys sell.

. I had 19K mile 440 6 pack superbird rear ended by a truck .I got the car back for salvage value $500.00.and had to part it out to get money buy another car .Ted Janak bought most of this car to cast his parts from

No stone throwin here, just seemed odd, thanks for clearing it up.  I've been researching this car for awhile trying to decide whether or not to pull the trigger on her.  50-60k is a LOT of $$$, even if it is a good deal.  Its a lot more if it's a bad one.

If you have a problem with my post, kick me off the forum.

I didn't have a problem with it if that's what you were thinking. It just sounded like one guy was answering for another. Sort of like when my wife answers for me which usually includes the word no or no preceded by an expletive.  ;D

Live less than 10 to 15 miles from him for over a decade now and have never met him and I'm the Prez of the Mopar Club here.. tisk tisk on me... :)   Granted,,,,, he doesn't get out to shows much...

It was a natural assumption that maybe since the Daytona hunt wasn't going as planned that you just might have been inclined to look at a Superbird instead. I love the Daytonas, but with the big difference in price, I'm definitely leaning towards a bird myself. I like both cars equally well.
I would be interested in Ted's car, but we're still about a year away from buying a wingcar.

My cousin bought one in the eighties with a regular RR nose. It was an orange 440, auto, it had the wing and right back window and the front windshield trim. the guy said he bought it that way.
