My starter is beginning to fail and I am a numbers guy. I want to rebuild my starter if it is the correct starter for the car, but I dont know the stamped corrrect number for my starter. Can someone share that with me? Also if there is a date code where would it be and is it a Julian date code or otherwise. If otherwise how do you read it?

Thanks for the help.

There is a cast date on the aluminum housing to show when the housing was 1st cast. then there is a stamped in date in the steel barrel portion to show when the assembly was finally assembled

The starter you probably need is (housing) casting 2095219. The snout (barrel) casting should be 2095150. This is 100% correct for a 69 - I am assuming the 68's were the same.

Did your starter have the numbers on it I mentioned earlier? How about the dates?

I have not pulled it off yet. I had another one that I looked at and it was dated later but was a Chrysler starter.
