Ok,  I just got my 70 R/T delivered and I discovered that the car will start in any gear which is probably not a good thing.

Car is an automatic with column shift 440 4 barrel "U" engine code

How do I go about getting it to only start in Park & Neutral?

Thanks for your help.

There's no adjustment necessary, the neutral safety switch ties into the starter relay on the driver-side next to the battery, it goes down to the tranny driver-side and plugs into the transmissions neutral safety switch. Verify the wiring, and replace the neutral safety switch if necessary.
I drove mine around with a broken/jumpered neutral safety for a couple years before I finally went to a certified dragstrip and they caught it and made me fix the problem.

Agree. If you are missing the harness you can get a nice M&H one from Year One and get the part label for it from ECS (the PN label goes about 6 inches up from the harness connection to the neutral safety switch on the drivers side of the tranny).

Do you backup lights work correctly? I had a 67 trans in my 69 and had the same problem. The 67 trans was designed yo use a one pronged NSS. The repair was a new rooster comb in the valve body.
