My car runs great, except the the bottom transmission gasket isn't sealing properly and drips, I haven't been able to get a hold of the person who put the transmission together yet, but I went to advanced auto and bought ATF-4 because they said it is what chrylsers should take. Should I put ATF-4 in or will it react if a different fluid is currently in it?

I may have worded the question poorly. My transmission needs more fluid, I do not know what type of fluid is in it, could there be any negative effects from adding atf-4?

From what I understand, ATF-4 is for modern mopars and will provide a soft shift.  When I got my new tranny from Cope Racing, he said to just run a good quality Dextron II rated fluid.  But, any fluid is better than none!  Bob

They can mix for the most part. The biggest difference in them are the different detergents used and maybe another additive or so. You'll never know the difference since you have to drain the fluid to change the gasket anyway.
