I took a part time job a year or so ago working on buses for the local school district. I also got my bus and passenger endorsement on my CDL so I could help out as a sub bus driver. My driving record is pretty good with a total of 3 tickets. My first one was in 75, The last one back in 91. Tonight, I was taking a load of kids home, Came across a country road where the county was mowing in my lane. I went around the first and second one just fine, Blowing my horn before I got to them to be sure they saw me, And at the last one when I blew the horn I guess I startled him because he turned his tractor right into the side of my bus. He came across the center line.

2 hours waiting for a patrolman to come out and do his report and another hour going for a piss test.  Nobody hurt and nobody got a ticket....Yet.

Long story short, It's Miller time.

One girl screamed when it happened but most thought it was pretty awesome. The guy driving the tractor had his head up his ass and not paying attention. I've known the guy all my life and he's never been known for having a lot of common sense.

A couple years ago he was hauling a small tractor on a 16 foot trailer behind his Dakota, and when he pulled out into the road the tractor went right off the back of the trailer... Right in front of me. No chains and not in gear. I guess he was destined to be involved with some sort of accident with something I was driving.  ::)

Pretty clear HE hit you! Thank God no one was hurt! I watched a dummy drive a bulldozer into a 16 foot deep ditch full of water...then try to start the motor while it was under water! Maybe it's the same guy!

Brilliant! Yes, that's right, you should always yank the wheel into traffic when you hear a horn blow. Sounds like 20/20 hindsight tells you you should have waited for this idiot to pull off the road. Or perhaps sat back about 50 feet before blowing the horn. Oh well. At least the only thing damaged was metal and rubber.

yikes that was a bash ..to bend the rim like that :o ..goood no one was hurt

I rode the school bus for 2 years and the only memorable thing about it was the one time we got into a minor fender bender (no inuries, etc) and we had to sit in the bus for a couple of hours while reports and all that nonsense were done.

That was one thing that we messed up on. Myself and the transportation administrator. The kids were all fine and I knew they were. We weren't moving fast enough for anyone to get hurt.

Nowadays most kids have cell phones and they all called their parents. Another driver on another route comes within a mile of where the accident happened and she offered to take the rest of the kids home. So parents came and picked up 8 of them, and the other 10 or so got on the other bus. The highway patrol didn't give me hell over it because we had all the names and addresses for all the kids that were riding the bus, but he did say that I should have kept them. I knew it but I think my brain went into overload.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?
