There must be no metal left on this package tray ;)

and a lovely way to finish off the trunk...A+ for creativity

Remote control tuner in the trunk i suppose.?,..

I was in the stereo shop back when sometime and they said they put 4 6x9's across the package tray in a 64 Impala and it sounded damn good.

I think it'd make me want to wear baggy pants and put my ball cap on backwards.  Never mind the cowbell, it needs more bass.  :icon_smile_big:

Could have created more with a bunch less.  Very nicely manicured though, so the installer has potential, just needs a little direction IMO.
"A" for effort and cleanliness, "D" for the overall finished product and inefficient use of space.  But then again a bunch would say I'm out to lunch on the direction I chose for my Charger as well(obvious reasons).

Good idea, bad implementation. The speakers on the package tray look hideous because of all the damn shapes. Would have been nicer with 4 6x9's (seem em on a 3rd gen, they look pretty sweet. Think the linoleum in the trunk looks OK...then again those disgusting speaker grilles...blah, no thanks!!

FLG, you saw 4 6x9's on a third gen? they seem to lack the width? I would think a 6x9 would be a tight fit on a third gen  :shruggy: as for this its a bit over the top for me. Like Mike said more could have been done using less :Twocents:

FLG

If i remember correctly..I will see on mine if they fit...dont see why not. Might have been 2 6x9s and 2 6" but i remember 4 speakers and for some reason all 6x9s... :scratchchin:

My 74 has 6x9's in the package tray. They're tight but they work/sound great :D

I don't know why you need as many speakers as this guy does  :eek2: 2 in the drivers doors and 2 rears work great for me!

im my 72 there are 2 6x9 and they sound really bad because they are so old  :icon_smile_angry: and my 73 charger has a am radio only with the front speaker so i dont use it :o , my 73 roadrunner has a new cd player with 3 6x9 :2thumbs: , my aspen has has a new hd radio  ;D 2 6x9 and i have to put in 2 6in and i may put a few more 6x9's.  :yesnod:

mikesbbody

FLG, CurtisC, bk72 thanks for the info guy's  :2thumbs: I was looking thinking "I dont know if a 6x9 will even fit!" but now I know they do! I have the factory rear window demister on one side and I dont know if that hole is big enough for the speaker? Id have to cut a hole on the other side though. Sorry for the hijack btw  ;D

It does look like crap, but maybe the guy is just a car audio dealer & that's his display.

I've hacked holes for speakers in so many cars over the years, including my first '69 Charger around 1981. Good car speakers back then cost a fortune, so I bought all separate components & installed them in the rear deck & made my own grilles for about $120. I had a nice AM/FM Cassette deck, passive EQ, 4 channel amp, & went to Radio Shack to buy pairs of 8" woofers, mid ranges, tweeters, & crossovers.

After cutting away the rear package tray metal, I mounted all the speaker parts to plywood, then attached it to the underside. It sounded great compared to the crappy 6x9's that were available for that price & handled a lot more power. It only lasted about 3 months though, not the stereo set up, the car.....LOL The timing chain went & took out the rest of the motor with it.

I still have & reused the speakers in a headboard I built behind my waterbed to hook up to the TV.  :D

Yeah, we're not so different from the kids today really are we?  Instead of fart cans and big goofy wings we had sidepipes and air shocks with loneger rear shackles.  Instead of giant sub woofers with window rattling bass, we cut holes in the door panels and put mind blowers on the package tray so we could melt our ears.  From 8 tracks to mp3s it's still just trying to look cool so some girl will take pity on your pimply faced adolescence.

Silver R/T

that looks out of place, they should've been hidden. Looks like one of those cars from fast and furious with a funky deal that comes out of trunk and rotates/does tricks.

693.9i ....I've always liked infinity stuff!
Big rockford fan as well. Right now though, I have a couple Alpine Type r 12's in a qlogic ported box and a V12 Alpine amp that makes unbelievable bass.  It is sitting on my living room floor with nothing to put it in.  Used to be in my H2.  I was extremely impressed with the quality and thunder this combination put out.  Spent a buttload on it and now I can't even give it away for half. :rotz:
I actually thought about adding it to my 13 speaker system in the Challenger...thank god the box was an inch too wide to fit in there.
