74 Charger 400. Starts fine when cold, let it warm up and shut it off and then it will not start for
about 1 hour. Not getting any spark when hot. Changed coil, ignition module, well everything thing on
the firewall. Still no spark till car is completely cooled off. Any ideas?

Thanks

Cars turns over fine. Ballast Resister? That's the porcelain deal on the firewall right? If it is I
changed that as well.

Coil ? Sometimes they do this.  The new coil may be bad.

Actually, thinking about it, I had the same problem about 5 years ago.  The pick up coil inside the electronic distributor would go bad once it got hot.  Pretty much made the car backfire once or twice and then die.  Once it cooled down after a couple minutes.  Fired right back up.  Replaced it and all was well with the Mopar world.

Are you sure it isn't the starter?..  :shruggy: if it takes approx 45 minutes that could very well be the problem...

he is saying engine is cranking, but getting not spark.

in that case I'd try replacing the high flutenator or molecular twangulator

I suspect a ecu or distributor pick up that going bad and temp. sensative. Could be the coil, Its not an ACCEL is it?

Next time it happens use ice to cool the ecu or pick up, see if that helps.

If you have a radio supression capicitor on the coil , it could have moisture in it and be shorting out when heat soaked. Unhook it and try it.

Pickup in the distributor is likely bad.  :Twocents:

I put a new distributor in a couple of weeks ago. Never really drove the car anywhere we needed
to shut it off so I didn't notice anything. Put the old distributor back in problem solved, so it
had to be the pickup. Thanks guys.
