well I have to admit I have drank then drove (havent we all?) ---   but I know where my limit is (no BS)       luckily it takes a great amount to get me drunk - but I never push my limits....   two or three beers in the corse of 3 hours is more than safe for me (and legal).     There have been nights were it is 5 or 6 hours at a bar throwing back about 20 shots and about a dozen pints...       chilled out for about 3 hours and I was OK to drive. Legally I probably was not but I felt 100% sober....    no  clue...      I have not done that any more as it is just not worth the risk...

The only think I ever regret doing while I was drunk was making out with my best friend (a girl) - she was hammered as well but it put a great strain on the relationship...    overall though- nothing bad has ever happened

20 shots and a dozen pints?  ya, you have a high tolerance,  I can relate.  I could drink a lot and seem fine to drive, Seem fine to drive, but probably would have blown a high b.a.c. %      I haven't drank in five years and nine months, turns out I am an alcoholic, who'd a thunk it

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

I don't even know if free rides home would work.  Our community has a volunteer program during Christmas that gives you a ride and brings your car home as well for free and people still drive drunk.
It goes back to that part about not being able to make a rational decision.

gasoline_24

We have a program called safe ride that runs 365 days out of the year and is free.  However, I don't think it has had any effect on the number of DUIs given each year.  Drunk people make bad decisions.

You don't even know how many of my customers I have given rides home over the years. DUI it's not worth it.   And how many of them that have thanked me the next day.

Jackie I can't even imagine how many more you've seen leave and left you wondering.

That's why I can take their keys and make them call for a ride.  :2thumbs:

I've mentioned this before.  But by all rights bars shouldn't even exist.  Their only purpose is to get someone intoxicated.  You can't tell me that at closing time 70% of the patrons aren't legally intoxicated.

If they wanted to put a dent in dui's, closing bars entirely would help.  But then the local gubment would lose out on a cash cow.  Talk about hurting the economy.

I realize some of the places force food on ya'.  But not all places serve food.

Taverns, saloons, bars . . . part of human culture.  I see no reason to do away with them.

But we Americans have a particularly one-sided relationship with them.  We go to a certain list of places ONLY to get rowdy & sloshed, and then we generally go to totally different places with family and/or to actually get a decent meal.  This is not the case in a lot of other cultures.

SeattleCharger

every bar and tavern has a parking lot,  people in u.s. drive cars everywhere,  so who is surprised there are drunk drivers?

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

I'll bet there are just as many or more who are driving from their own or a buddy's place.  The bars look like main offenders because all of the drunks are leaving all of the bars in each area at the same time (the drunkest ones anyway).

most bartenders I know do cut people off after a certain point...     but then the guys just go to another bar....

YOu nailed it Rolling.  Bars are legally suppose to cut someone off who obviously has had to much to drink.  But you can't someone from leaving the bar and going to the next one and drinking more.

Had a run in with a drunk Friday evening....we were at a well known local restaurant with friends and our 10 year old daughter....I excused my self to use the restroom. While walking towards the rest room, I see a drunken idiot slug his wife...nice. I asked him what his problem is....I'm 5' 10" 215 lbs..... he instantly wants to kick my ass.....one of the cooks came out and literally threw his drunken ass out and called the police. Sad thing is....drunk got in his car aand sped off...no plate number seen.

When I was in high school, a kid down the street (a few years older but a dork) did that same thing to a 6-7 year old, but extremely mint 1978 Silver Anniversary 4-speed L82 Vette. He bought this car with his paper route money - -  I think he got the paper route when he was 12.

It was a very nice car, and the damage looked about the same....with lots of little peices of shit all over the road.  :eek2:

Like I said, he was a dork....but a helluva car cleaner/restorer back in the day.  Even though the car was used, soon it was looking brand new and perfect.

I also don't think he was drinking, ..... if he was, this accident may have been the result of his very first beer??   :shruggy:

Since I am TUFCAT's brother, I too remember this!!! I remember going to the intersection it happened, scooping up pieces of his Vette, putting them on his front porch, ringing the bell and running like hell, laughing like a hyena.

It was 1983, I was 17, and also a dork.

You should've let him take a swing, and proceeded to beat his ass....then he'd be unable to drive drunk! :D
