It's sad like when Plymouth was fazed out. Firebirds and Trans Am's/Formula's have always been in my top 3 favorite cars. :'(

And I still think in the long run, GM will regret closing Pontiac as at least here in Wisconsin, they sell tons of them. I love the new G8 Pontiac. Wish I had the cash to go buy one now.

we just bought a new black G8 for my wife. we love it. we went to look at  and drive the challenger, then the g8. it was no contest.the challenger seemed cheap by comparison. its sad because i love the old mopars,i have a few,but the new mopars are just not that nice.  :rotz:

TOO MUCH HORSEPOWER, IS ALMOST ENOUGH!

The only Pontiac I like, (that is new), is the Solstice. I hope it continues on a different brand name!!

And now, GM no longer makes any cars that I like.  Shame.

If Mopar ever died, I'd have become a Pontiac guy.  If Chrysler goes under now, I don't know what cars I'll switch to...
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

RIP , Pontiac... They make (IMO) a few of the greatest cars to ever pound the pavement, this being at the top of my favorite list!! (My buddy's '70 T/A)

See the Saturn Sky..
I asked a guy about the new GTO he was driving a year or so ago,.. he said he had alot of problems with it,..
I was suprised..
and I never see them anymore, but there was a time a couple years ago when I'd see them around,.. but they didn't seem to catch on,.. and I never see them any more,.. all I see now are clapped out Grand Ams from ten years ago and newish Grand Prixs,.. i will on occasion see an older Firebird however..
Seems Pontiac really tried for awhile to be an American BMW,.. but folks just went out and bought real 3, 5 and 7 series Bimmers,.. there are thousands of them running around here,.. and meanwhile I just see just the occasional Pontiac..
It's quite sad to me who actually remembers the Marques' Glory Days...
The guy up the hill had a SWEEEET '67 GTO double gold with a ram air hood and Quads and Hurst four speed, it was lifted front and back a couple inches and had extra guages and a cool row of toggle switches on the console. That car really floated my boat when i was 12,.. he had a big name in Peter Max style letters on the back quarters "Soul Shaker",.. to me a VERY influential Auto.

It's too bad that they're going under.  I really like the G8 GT and GXP.  Finally a nice RWD full-size sedan with a nice V8 AND it looks better than the Charger.  Bye bye Pontiac  :'(

My first 2 cars were Pontiacs. The first one was a 1976 Catalina 4 door land barge. The 2nd was quite a bit cooler. The ads boasted it has the longest hood of any car and was the first car with the antenna in the windshield. Any guesses?
I would guess a 1969 Grand Prix Model J

if your an old school fart that's waaay too easy...
there was a time when Ponchos carried alot of innovative features into the marketplace first for GM,.. like the endura bumpers and the hidden turn signals, stacked headlights, even woodgrain dashboards... and hood tachs,.. those are just some I can rattle off,...

I'm sorry to see the Pontiac name bite the dust. I quite liked some of their cars through the years. Late 30's, some 40's, 50's and 60's models, and the second generation Trans Ams.
Was considering selling my Tenth Anniversary Trans Am but I think I'll hang onto it now.

It's sad to see it go but I miss Plymouth more.

I'm with you there.  Thanks to all the bean counters who came to the brilliant conclusion that badge engineering was a great thing to do.

I love my Comp G to death.

Sad to see them go :'(

Yeah it was a model J. The 428 was long gone when I got it, a 350 2 bbl. out of a Lemans was what was in it. I wish I had pics of it. The guy I bought it from had a 1968 primered Firebird in his driveway that he just sold for $2500. It had a 400 tri-power. I got the Grand Prix for $1800 and it was freshly built by a high school auto class.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

Ghoste

What's the difference between the J and SJ?  (there was an SJ too right?)

jb666

Here's a funny shot. My buddy Chris (Who's a member here, so please don't trash his ride) just put new springs in his car (front). It sat so high that he had to swap out the rears. He calls it his 4X4 conversion for New England roads!!  The car is bad ass either way, but he's right, it's sitting pretty high!!

Sublime/Sixpack

Hopefully the springs will settle. Its still a good looking car though.

He's hoping so , too . It's funny, but at car shows people flock to this car.. It's probably up there in my top 5 cars of all time.

My 95 Grand Am was a great car.
I bought it used with 34,000 kms on it and racked it up to over 250,000 kms and then gave it to my daughter. She dove it for a couple ofyears and sold. I know it was still kicking around town a few years later, but I've since lost track of it in the last 5 years or so.
It had the Quad 4 engine with a manual 5 speed trans.

I used to put 5000 kms on that thing every month. I'd change the oil religiously - to the point where the oil was still clean.

Sad to see Pontiac die.  I never owned one, but if Mopar wasnt around i would have bought one.  Always wanted a Formula, a 2+2, 68 Bonneville or a 71 GP.

A friend of mine bought  a new 70 GTO, RAIV, 4 Speed, Convert, wonder where that is now.
