Ole Rosco scuffed his paint on that first clip   :o   but, the General turns out clean as a whistle as always.

Al Wyatt Jr really took no prisoners when he was jumping that car.  The size of some of those jumps, with the safety gear they had back then . . .

It's tough to beat Gary Baxley's early Indian Dunes (Styx River) stunt for its sheer picturesque quality.  When people think "General Lee jump," that one is usually the image that's burned into their minds.

Sorry bud, I couldn't resist that one.

Mine, in my own little show I put on last April.

I'll take the first jump made by Craig Baxley in front of Seany Hall, Oxford College, November 11th, 1978.  Lee 1's first and only jump.  Only cast member to ever drive Lee 1 was John.
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Probably my favorite jump is the one over the 18 wheeler at the beginning of "High Octane". I know they made higher and longer jumps, but there is something about that one Ive always liked.
My second favorite, is the one from "Double Dukes" the one when they are headed toward Roscoe and Daisy's Jeep, and jump them. The angle of that shot is just cool, they filmed it several feet up from the rear, and you can see the roof/rear end from that shot. Just always though it was cool.

Hey

The Double Dukes Jump was great  , just a great shot from the rear showing the flag  , next would be the one from 10 Million dollar sheriff , they get some serious air in the GL over the Jesse Pickup , it was reused in one of the last episodes "Heiress Daisy Duke "  in that episode i believe Waylon comes on and Says " i feel a big one coming up" or something to that effect , it just has some serious height , it would have been a mess once it hit the ground .

The freeway jump in the 2005 movie was great , but no stuntman .

The "Heiress" jump was a fresh one, it was just done at the same spot as the "$10 million" jump.

If you have any doubt then look at the silver 4dr that's driving down below - two different models.

Mine has to be in the opening credits where they jump the canyon/river and hit the ramp so hard a ton of dirt goes flying also.  I guess it has to be the camera angle and over all scene for me too.  A close second is the original jump for Lee 1.

I've always wondered what's hanging off the car in that jump scene....camera I assume? :shruggy:

This is the one I was referring to.  It was done in 1979 at the old "Indian Dunes" off-road site just north of L.A.

The cliff in the background was also the spot where Daisy's yellow RR got driven off the edge & blown up the next season.

Remember the Sherriff in "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry"?  The one who talked them into crashing the Charger into the train?  Well that actor lost his head (literally) in a tragic helicopter accident while they were filming "The Twilight Zone" movie at that same spot at Indian Dunes in 1982.  The site was closed for filming after that.

Vic Morrow was his name, better known for his role in the old tv series "Combat".

What you see hanging from the side of the car as it comes down and hits the ramp and you can also see it real well when it leaves the ramp and started to travel up into the air. It's the camera that takes the footage for the side shot showing the ground and tire spining.

If I ever got the chance to jump Daisy Duke back in the day, that would have been my favorite!

The railroad jump from "Granny Annie" hands down best GL jump imo...
Funny, I still remember seeing that one when that episode first premiered...loved it

jaak

you know another cool one, with the cop cars, is the one where the two cars jump toward each other and crash in mid-air, IDK what episode it originally appeared in, but that some footage was re-used in several episodes.

Those stunt guys had balls the size of basketballs, what ever Paul Baxley wanted them to do, they did it.

The manual trans train jump car was for the second train jump.

The first train jump was the famous one in 1980.  That's the one from "Grannie Annie" that showed up in the opening credits for a while.  Small pushbar and a 727.

The crew tried doing another train jump again in 1983, but it ended in a bad smashup.  The editors cut away to some stock footage of a different jump for the landing.  This one used a 4spd car.  Wider pushbar.

--------------------------------------

The show actually used a number of 4spd Chargers, but the mechanics normally swapped in 727s as soon as they got them.  The crew wanted automatics.
