I had the worst ride, in my Charger, since I've owned it.  In near blizzard conditions, with 40 mph winds, I had to go and pick my stepson up, at his work (long story).  I go to start me daily and battery is dead. Go figure.  LOL I figure, hey it's only a 7 mile trip, I'll  use the Charger.  Bad move!  A beefed up 440 with a 3700 stall and a large cam plus BFG 345/55-15 drag radials. are not a good combo for snow.  I was never so glad to get home, in my life. Never again.  Plus, now I have all the winter road shit, all over the car.  It's going to be near 50 on Sunday, will have to get the power washer out and spray it down.

 Sort of been there and done that, well not with slicks! Think that is bad, try getting caught with 4" of snow on the road with a BB Cuda! Before I left the shop I stuffed 300 pounds of stuff in the trunk and another 100 in the back seat. My God, I did not think I was going to get home. Would still fish tail at 40 MPH in slush's.

Hey crap happens. Look at this way you know for next time and just imagine what most people in the late 60s and 70s had to endure with all the rear wheel drive cars in the deep snow. Not as many 4x4s back then as there is now.

I had to do that once when I had my '73 Grand Sport Torino. I got about a half block from my house, and got stuck in the middle of the road. There I sat til someone helped me push it to the curb

I can totally understand.

Having only one extra vehicle around is just not going to work anymore.

This Feb. (After christmas is good and over) I'm gonna go out and get me a dodge status so I have another vehicle around for emergencies.

Right now I only have my dakota around besides the charger and there is no way that I want to depend on the lizard as a back up. (as fun as that may be)

I kinda had a similar problem this weekend but I didn't have to drive the charger....just bring it back out of hibernation to move it ot the other side of the garage because my water heater decided to crap out. So down comes the lizard because it's right in the way of the h2o heater.
Oh well. It sure was nice to hear it the lizard hum once again. First time in about a month and a half.

For the younger drivers out there it is kinda hard to imagine, but cars like that (RWD) were daily drivers for us old farts.  It's no wonder that so many cars got wrecked in those days.

Pretty nasty weather in Michigan!!   I heard possiblle 60 on Monday though!   Glad it was a safe trip . . . but next time just jump your every day ride and leave the nice car at home when its snowing!!   lol

I had a 68 for a daily driver in high school, had pro tracs on it.  rain, snow....quite an adventure.  but it got better, moved onto a 74 chevelle in college and then a fox body mustang GT.   Not!!!!

Back when I drove my Charger in the snow, there were times where I was sideways most of the trip!
If I put pizza cutter snow tires on there, it probably would have done better...I couldn't do that though, I had to look cool!

Been there done that 25 years ago when the Charger w/ old Goodyear L60-15 and 4.30 gears were my only means of transportation.    We just had to get out on the weekend and consume mass quantities.    They didn't keep any of the roads in the metro Detroit area very good back then either.   Yeah... cruising Woodward during a snowstorm was really smart... like anybody was gonna come out and street race... WTF was I thinking. 

Just be glad you made it safe without smashing anything up.     Driving conditions pretty much sucked out here on Turkey day night  too but I took the jeep.    I'm getting old enuf to where I'm saying that a turkey and mashed potatoes isn't enuf to make me want to go out when I don't need to.

It isn't that they don't want to maintain the roads around Detroit, it's just that Mother Nature camoflages the potholes so well.  After all, when you dump an ocean's worth of salt on there to create the potholes in the first place, it'd be kind of pointless if people could see them.

 When I first got the Runner in 73 Dad had a set of studded snow tires for her. Man she could go threw 8" of snow like nothing.

To me I love driving a RWD vehicle in snow. Actually prefer that to the FWD crap of today. When it comes to plowing through some snow, give me a RWD car or truck any day of the week. I hate driving in snow in FWD.

When I was in college I would use my 74 Duster any time it snowed more than an inch to get anywhere I wanted to go. No problems at all, yeah it would fishtail a little here and there. But that is correctible. I'd rather have the rear end swinging around and be able to point the front end where i want to go, than have the front tires spinning, and the car not going where I want it to go.

I learned my lesson 20+ years ago when I lived in Wichita, Kansas...  I was talked into driving my 440-6 Cuda over to someone's house on a Sunday after about 3-4 inches of snow had fallen.  The guy wanted a reference on how some of the engine compartment components were mounted & lines/wires routed, so I drove the Cuda over... roads were kind of slushy, but not too bad of a drive...  While I was there, maybe another inch or so of snow fell... still no big problem.  However, when the sun went down... Houston we have a problem... about 15 miles from home with melted snow re-freezing on the roads... AND, to make matters worse a Texan driver spending his first winter north of the Red River.

Well I did make it home without wrecking the Cuda, but it took about 2 hours and some creative driving techniques! ...Never again!

Glad to hear you are OK!    I'd never take my car out in that crap.  Just tell myself the car doesn't exist in the winter and let her sit in storage.


I'm one for rear drive in the snow.  Had a '94 Grand Prix last winter and it had awesome traction, but didn't like to stop.  Had an old 2 wheel drive Ranger the year before and it would go anywhere as long as I didn't stop (no snow tires! lol).  I'd rather be fishtailing then plowing with no front steering!  Plus my Ranger was a lot of fun constantly going sideways.
