So I'm in the process of adopting my first dog!. I've owned 2 while living with my parents but not while on my own.

I've been browsing for a while now trying to find a dog that fit my criteria (an older athletic dog thats well mannered)

I found this guy here and its almost a done deal.

All thats left is the home inspection to make sure I'm not lying bout my fenced yard and such and then the meet and greet

Good luck with the adoption. I've been thinking about adopting another dog but because my dog is a 5 year old female, I have to adopt a male that's under 6 months. So far I haven't had much luck, even on PetFinder.com. All of the "shelters" around here seem to want pet store prices for any dog under a year...

Say what? They want to make sure you are good enough to take care of a dog?

Congrats... I think.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Depends on the shelter. They want to make sure the pet - who may have already been abused or in a bad environment - doesn't end up in a worse situation. Most will also have a clause stating that if you decide not to keep the pet that you will return it to their shelter. I had a minor problem in that many places will only adopt larger dogs if you have a fenced yard (which I don't). I spoke to one German Shepherd rescue who agreed that our setup was perfectly fine and they'd relax the rules.

Good luck with the adoption! I hope you both are happy.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Maybe they should have rules like that for people that want to have kids.
