fuel pump question

I have a 69 charger with a 1977 chrysler 440 in it. I replaced the fuel pump and instead of the pump arm going right under the cam, there was a push rod that came down and it had an etched line in it. I pushed it up toward the block and put the arm of the pump under that push rod. Is this correct?  Any help is appreciated.
