Painted the Charger last weekend . 3 base coats of black,3 coats of Dupont 7900s clear .  First time using B/C  .

Looks good , no runs  .

Has slight orange peel over most of the car.

Sanded with 1500 then buffed with 3m micro finish , then hand rubbed with swirl remover. Still has slight haze in the clear any sugestions?

1500 is not fine enough to move on the buffing...Minimun of 2000 grit. I highly reccomend the 3m Ultra fina System for buffing black. Its a 3 step process, and it takes a while but the results are awesome.

The key is to make sure each step is done 100% before moving on to the next step.

I agree 1500 isn't fine enough sand paper to finish with before buffing. I start with1000 then go to 1500 and end with 2000. I use Liquid Ice compounds regardless of color. The clear dosent really know what color that its covering. Its just that black shows the scratches more so then other colors. That haze your seeing is scratches. It makes a defferance on the brand of sand paper you use also. Meguiers is what I use.I use the heavy cut compound first with a heavy cut wool pad. Then go on to a finer pad and there blue compound. Then finish up with a foam pad and the same blue compound. After that I use 3M's hand glaze a little goes along way. Like was stated above finish one step compleatly before moveing on to the next step. Theres alot more to achieving a show quality finish then just sanding and buffing. Its how its done and the materials used from the very begining. From the body work on up.

Thanks for the replys.

Will try 1000-1500-2000 sanding then buffing. Not a show car , a driver , just wanted to get rid of some of the orange peel.

Black was probably not the best choice for an amateur .You can see my bodywork in a few places. The smoother it gets the more you see it.

If you want to keep some of the peel for hiding start with the finest paper you can.

Also just to clearify what I said earlier. The Ultra fina system is designed for Black But I use it on all colors cause it works so well.
