The previous owner ran a direct connection from the acc plug in on the fuse box to the brake lamp switch. I just spliced in a fuse with a 5amp fuse and it blew. Should I try a 15 amp, or another size? The original fuse space on the box burnt and I do not want to use it just now until I find out why. Also when I tried starting it I got starter chatter. Hit the motor with a hammer and it woked again. Is the starter motor bad?

they usually melts at that cavity ( same experience ) but mostly because hazzards function... My thought is, fusebox terminals are not able to hold the load specified. They need to be and keep cleaned, but mine was perfect before began to melt.
