Mail order brides... does it always go wrong?

The reason I ask is because I know a few guys who have gone this route and rarely has it gone well. One guy I used to work with got dumped right after she got her citizenship and another guy I worked with is still trying to get his "wife" over here from Vietnam. Then there's that story a few years back about the guy who married a Russian woman and then killed her. Has anyone here tried it or know someone who's made it work? Sounds like a wreck waiting to happen most of the time.

I knew a guy who did it. It didn't work out. He is half crazy and I think it turned out she was too. Let's face it. If you have to buy a bride from another country you probably have a few issues that need some attention.

I actually thought about it at one time as I have a thing for foreign women. Escpecially Brazilian, and Europian women. But when I looked into in more, there are a lot of legal procedures you have to go through and then I thought I would be a bad idea anyway. I would rather know who I am being married to instead of taking a shot in the dark so to say.

There was a mechanic at my work a few years ago who did it, he was sort of an odd guy too.
About a month after she got here from Russia, she divorced him & took him for all he was worth...poor dumb schmuck.

There is something to be said for the face to face dating/courtship thing. Its the process of getting to know someone. Mail order removes all of that. Not the idela way to start things off.

There's another route you can take. One of my former employees had a magazine filled with American women who posted their pics(some were real hotties), vital stats, and the date they would be available. At the bottom of each personnel ad it said "willing to relocate".
I finally realized all these woman were in jail.

I'm pretty sure most anybody that's involved in those things are pretty desperate... on both sides.    And I wouldn't just leave it at mail order brides either.   I'm sure there's quite a few guys in the army, etc. that go and fall in love with the first piece of tail they get and bring somebody back over and get divorce papers shortly afterwards...   in fact it happened to my nephew with a girl from Germany.

My neighbor's brother did it...but he did it right.

As soon as she got over here and before they got married, he made her sign a pre-nup in front of his lawyer and 3 witnesses.  Then they got married.  He kept everything in his name (house, cars, etc.) and, of course, 3 years later after she got her citizenship, she divorced him.  Since, according to NC law, you have to be married for seven years before she can have claim to his property, she got nothing and, as a result of her pre-nup, she waived all rights to Alimony. 

The only reason he did it was because it was basically the cheapest hooker/housekeeper he could find.

I'd think your marriage would be the safest on the planet if your commitment to her is anything like it is to that Charger. If what you went through with the Charger is any indication she could be paralyzed, blind, deaf, impotent and missing both arms and you'd still keep her.

I worked in the International Students admission office for a few years back here in the local community college and ran across stories like that.. Student's with a F1 student visa would hook up with an American , get married and then apply and get their green cards....... On more than one occasion, the "dumped" American would come into the office wanting us to call Immigration and deport them... Well,,, even though they had all my sympathies, there was nothing that could be done....  Live and learn...........

If your child is an American citizen, you can stay as long as you want.
