What'd you guys do with your gas tank straps?  We are going to re-use ours, and they have been cleaned up with the wire wheel, but I'm not sure if I should paint them silver, leave them bare or.....?

Back N Black

You could go bare metal and clear coat them to prevent rust. I clear coated my tank and straps.Looks sharp.

I would vote for silver or black POR 15.

POR-15 is for painting over rust, hence the POR.  The straps don't have rust on them any longer.

The clear coat sticks to the bare metal pretty well then, I'm assuming?

i sent my tank and straps out to be powdercoated they look amazing now.

terrible one

I went with the stainless steel straps on Ebay. . . not sure why I splurged in that area . . .

Long Island RT

Whatever you do - make them the same as the tank.  I personally think it looks better when both are the same.   :yesnod: - either black or natural.

Thanks for the FYI!  I'm trying to restore mine to NEAR original.  I'm repainting the underside but not putting the undercoat on, for looks and to show I'm not covering anything up.

Thanks again!

Mark. the underside of the cars were primer out of the factory with a bit of overspray of color from the body being painted. But, like you if I can I'd get the bottom painted body color also.

Thanks buddy!  I don't think too many people would get bent out of shape about it if I considered it "original" in most senses of the word but that is an obvious change that is purely for the purposes of appearance and transparency (in regards to the restoration).

Just got mine off ebay for 30.00 and they are galvanized like the tank.  My car is a show car always garaged.  I'm slapping them on raw and leaving them that way.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.
