Theres no spark when turning the motor over but I do get spark when I let go of the key. Sometimes the engine starts.......most time it doesn't. :eyes: When it does catch a spark and start it runs perfectly though.

Bad Ingnition Module maybe? :icon_smile_question:

I would be more toward to damaged, loosen, brown wire from ignition switch up ballast resistor and then spliced to coil. or damaged ignition switch.

start checking engine harness loosen at bulkhead, specially brown wire

actually, it sounds more to me like a bad ignition switch (the thing your key fits into), those have been known to fail, and they can do so in a variety of ways, the fact that you have no spark in start, but do in run gives it a high probability that is your issue.

I hope it's not that! I just put a new one in a few months back......not looking forward to tearing the steering column apart again. :eyes:

Right now I have a jumper wire from the coil to the battery with a push button in between to get it going until I get things figured out.

I'll try Nacho's idea next and start tracing the brown wire............which probably goes to the ignition switch.....right?

yeah... runs from ignition switch up to bulkhead, then to ballast and spliced from there to + lead of coil... that's all the run

Are you sure the ballast resistor isn't just bad (open)?

Nacho-RT74

if ballast were bad fail should be on opposite direction, starting for a while keep cranking and dead when release the key back to run. Ballast is bypased when cranking

DUH, your're right.  I mis-read the problem.  It about has to be a connection at the resistor/coil or ignition switch.  Like you said.

Hi Guys, I'm trying to get my charger started for the first time. My problem is I have no power going to the coil. Engine does crank, but no spark. Does the brown and the blue wire from the ignition switch have 12 volts in run position, because my doesn't. It leads me to believe that the ignition switch is bad. Hope you can give me some good info.

Steve,

Hi again,  All is well, the ECU was not grounded to the firewall. I painted the car and firewall and did not realize that the attach bolts would not be enough to ground the ECU to the firewall. I did a continuity check of it before I took just a little paint off of the firewall and then after, sure enough it was not grounded to the wall. All of your advice was a great help in troubleshooting this problem.

Thanks again Dodgecharger.com

Ihad the exact same thing happen to me with mine. I changed the voltage regulator and ignition box and BAM fired right  up.  just some other ting for you to check.
