Ive been working so much on the superbird that I finally got the itch to drive something,  :brickwall:  So I headed down to my parents house where the R/T is garaged and woke her up from the winter nap.

Boy did it feel good cruising around saturday with temps near 80 and the top dropped! :yesnod:

This car really rides nice and is such a pleasure to cruise in.

wingless now, but still around.

Oct 1999 I was offered this car by a co-worker whos wife owned it through a previous marrige. My '68 GTX was stolen about 4 months prior and my pop and I were looking for something to replace it. I restored the engine compartment and rebuilt the drive train along with the front and rear suspensions. The paint on this car is amazing especially considering it was painted sometime in the mid-eighties (possibly sooner).

here is the fore mentioned GTX. 440, console auto, disk brake car that was in prime restored condition. That sure was a pretty car. the weekend before it was stolen it won a first place trophy in an all makes show.

HOLY SH#$BALLS that's nice. :2thumbs:
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

69bronzeT5

Did they ever find the GTX?

Excellent example of a classy Mopar.  I love my Charger like nothing else, but God I miss a rag top.  :-\
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I was working trying to pick up a '68 'net R/T ragtop a while back.  I thought about your car every time I visualized it being done.
Beautiful ride man.  :2thumbs: I've told you that before on moparts.

I love that Coronet, the GTX looks like it was an amazing car too, but that Coronet... Wow, just wow!
If the GTX were still around do you think you could pick one over the other?

Sublime/Sixpack

Glad you enjoyed your drive. And thanks for posting photos of your R/T. Beautiful car! I hardly ever see '68 Coronet R/Ts anymore.

Thanks for all the kind words!

Ghoste,
Im not so sure I would have the R/T if the GTX were never stolen. the girl that owned it was so sorry to hear about my father and I losing the car we worked so hard on. I may not have been looking and possibly she would not have been offering. she felt we would take good care of her car if she sold it so I guess our loss helped in her decision to sell. :shruggy:

the GTX was a great car but the R/T is so beautiful and a drop top to boot....I just love it! :yesnod:

To the person that asked about the recovery of the GTX, Never heard another word. The time it was stolen (spring 1999) the Maryland car thieft ring was just beginning their period of terror. I really believe they are the responsible parties for the loss of my car. never proven........just my feeling.

I think I meant it more as a rhetorical question sinced both cars are so nice that if you had both at the same time how could you pick one over the other.  It's interesting about the person you sold it to though, maybe it was one of those karma things?

FlatbackFanatic

Very beautiful 68  :drool5:.It must of been a blast riding around with the top down!! :2thumbs:
