just searching for advices...

I'm using Dupont Fill'n'Sand primer, a regular Sherrim Williams achrilic ( sp ? ) paint and then Dupont 480S clear coat to make all the paint job fixing the terrorist attack I got:

do I need some tip or is there some advice to get better results on the job ?

I'm painting complete hood, just top of left side fender, complete door, and area above the rallye stripe...

If there is some advice to get, specially about to paint the top area of quarter panel, since will be just a touch up, will be great. Complete pieces are easier.

I'd paint it in BC/CC (base coat clear coat) to make blending easier. Spot paint the panel but clear the whole panel. With a white Vinyl top that will make painting the top of the 1/4 easy. You'll just have to blend that little 1 inch area not covered by vinyl by side glass.  :scratchchin: LEON.

Ok...

now a question... could a clear coat "touched" ?

I mean, my car does have some regular use scratches taht just affected clear. Is it posible a light sand over clear and then aply some new clear coat ( just clear ), without use paint first ?

remember I'm using regular achrilic paint and clear... Dupont, yes but regular products of its line.

When you say Regular Acrylic Paint. What do you mean? Do you mean Single stage paint? If so I dont do things that way, meaning single stage then Clear. Usualy one or the other. It can be done but no need to clear a single stage since it has a gloss. Base dont. :shruggy: LEON.

I'm not a pro but seem to do good painting.  On the clear coat, you can sand it wet/dry paper 2,000 grit ( with water ) and then buff it, or just buff it with a high speed buffer and light compound.  I removed the stripe on my trunk and cleared over the sanded clear.  I used 600 on the clear and it came out like a mirror.  I was using Urethane though.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

no I don't mean single stage, I mean base and then clear coat. I don't know how many different enamel/paints kinds actually does exist, but I do know Glasurit, PPG, ChromaBase. I don't know if they are some different than Achrilic enamel being we had on earlier times also Imnrod what as far I know is diff than Achrilic. That's why I specified "achrilic"...  :shruggy:

another question. Dunno how to fix this dent. Is very deep although "small" and I don't have acces on back due the reinforcement beam available since 73 on these cars. I'M TRYING NOT TOO USE lot of bondo to simply fill it up.

I do know there are slide hammers like an option making a small hole on panel. Another option is try to weld some nail or kinda off and then pop it out with plyers or something similar, BUT I don't have a welder or slide hammer.  :brickwall:

maybe I could get acces to some welder a friend does have and he knows to weld but he is VERY busy at this time.

Ok, yes but some scratches will need some deep sanding taking risk on remove lot of clear coat, maybe in some cases getting up to the base color, thats why I told about spot a clear coat section without paint before, simply directly clearcoating over the "deep" sanded existing clearcoat

Remember is a READY TO USE Dupont 480S clear coat

do you have any of those dent pro's around you?  Although the dent may be too deep for them to work out of it

Usually when you say Acrylic, I think Single stage Like Centari,  Imron is single stage also but a Polyurethane enamal, then you got single stage urethane enamel. Then Basecoat Urethane but this needs a Clear applied unlike the single stages. If me I'd maybe remove entire white side stripe, Paint entire side along with hood, Blend half the hood & top of 1/4 panel area. Whole side matches & no tape lines taping off at stripe. I dont like spotting all over the place next to each other, Sometimes just easier to do whole side. :Twocents: :shruggy: LEON.

I'm making complete hood and door, then just top of driver side fender and quarter panel section above stripe... simply I didn't removed yet the stripe but will be a complete part job. Stripe door section is being remake by a graphic designer and I don't want to remove untill have it in my hands. They will give me today. All scratches are allmost ready, dents below body line of door is also "fixed" waiting for being filled with body filler.

I would love to remake the complete side but is a waste of time and money by the moments since I got a NOS quarter ( still in Miami ) and will be replaced. On that time I will make a complete body job

The stripe was bad glued and inversed cut the charger logo and arrow, so this is an oportunity to fix that.

I will use FILL'N'SAND Dupont primer because that will save me to use any touch and detail filler... that is something like a red stuff or paste easy to aply, but I don't like it. That primer is able to fill and get a matched surface with any irregular surface around... I hope get it good leveled and matched.

Today I have a wet weather, not good to work with paint so will take care of more detail on sanding and take care of the deep dent.

I thought on that... get the car to a body shop just to pop out the dent, somehow. Damn, I don't want to simply fill it up with filler.

Yes, I remember that 1/4 panel in Miami story. Maybe just wait till you get your 1/4 on to fix instead of doing it twice? LEON. :Twocents: :shruggy:
