I have a pretty decent collection of automotive magazines from 1967 thru 1974.  All the Car & Driver new car issues and road tests etc. are in these publications.  Some really cool stuff that I acquired about 20 years ago.  They are, as far as condition goes, I'd say about 8 - 9 out of a possible 10.  They are really cool to flip through, read the articles and of course all of the original ads.

To make a long story short I just happen to have a copy of the September 1971 issue of Hot Rod at my desk and had some time this morning to scan a few pages.

I figured some of you folks would appreciate some of the photos/articles below.

Conversation starters if you will!

I recall this dragster as a kid but can't recall the last time I saw a photo of it.

I found something very interesting in the very first page I posted - '72 Performers.

Anyone want to guess what it is?

I recall a debate here on this site a while back as to whether or not it was available.  Certainly not trying to stir that up again, just sayin'!

I recall hearing the 440-6's were axed very early in the year.

The 4-speed was an option on the Demon, i thought back then manual trannys were standard issue and automatics were the optional tranny?.   :shruggy:

Partly right, the manual THREE speed was the base trans with four and auto's as the optional boxes.
