A833 Will it shift with 500 + BHP

I have run Mopar 4 speeds for 25 years. I have had 12 second cars making 500 net horsepower which seem to have difficulty power shifting under power with slicks. By power shifting I mean pedal to the metal and not letting off of the gas. I have noticed with slicks on and a 12 second car, often when you shift you can not get the next gear, it does not grind, but just does not go! I have found Chrysler 4 speeds this way always. Tough as nails but just do not always shift but no grinding. I know I can grind every second synchro and built a "slick shift" 4 speed but they tend to eventually catapult ( been there done that).

So I now have a bigger engine approx 500 BHP and 600 lbs/ft of torque. Will this work with a A833 hemi 4 speed? I really do not want to chop up my floor pan to install a Tremec but if this is what I need to do I will (XS car). The car will be able to run mid to low 11's but will not be caged so I will be limited to 12.0 which means I can launch hard and then shift "conservatively".

Will this live?

oldschool

i use 4 sp's in my cars,3 with 700 plus hp 1 with over 850 hp.i do not have the shifting problem you describe.maybe something needs ajusting  :scratchchin: check the bellhousing runout,if thats not correct it will cause hard shifting.
the 4 sp's are ALOT stronger than the tremecs.i wanted to use one in my 572.i was told i would tear it up in no time.

TOO MUCH HORSEPOWER, IS ALMOST ENOUGH!

Do you run these cars with slicks? And thank you, I have never blown a Chrysler 4 speed! These things are super tough.

GTX MATT

I have been told if you want a performance drive and want to power shift DO NOT buy a tremec. Theyre rated for alot of horse power yes but they do not take kindly to powershifting and kind of "clink" into gear. I was told this by a guy who sells the things.

What RPM are you trying to shift at?

With current cam 5000 rpm with 600 ft/lbs torque!
