Will a 8'6" surfboard fit in a new charger?

So I'm going back to California for a few weeks and during the time I lived there I had a 3000GT VR-4.  I could fit my board in my car to go to the beach by taking out the passenger seat, but hey at least it fit!  Anyways I was trying to think of a rental car that I could fit my board in that's not a truck or SUV, and that I wouldn't have to take the passenger seat out on.  Does anyone think this board will fit in a Charger?  Again it's 8'6"...  Chargers all have fold down rear seats to the trunk right?  I'm hoping I can fold down the passenger side rear seat and move the front passenger seat all the way forward.  That way I can still have a 2nd passenger, sitting in the rear seat behind the driver.

Here's a pic to give you an idea of size...

And in the 3000GT (I use to wrap it in garbage bags to prevent sand from going everywhere, but it ended up being a huge PITA so I just dealt with the sand  :brickwall:)

Or if any anyone has another idea, or of another common rental car that might be better let me know!  Thanks

Not many of us know much about surfboards or the new Charger here but welcome to the site.

I don't think anything 8 1/2 feet long is going to fit in a sedan unless it bends in the middle. Even if the rear seat opens up into the trunk I doubt something as wide as a surboard would go through it. I suggest you ask Budget or some other rental place.

BTW, this might qualify for one of the top ten most unusual questions we've had on this site (as long as I've been on).

Crap, now I'm realizing that this message board is probably more orientated towards the older Chargers... opps.  But yea I might have to go with roof straps or something.

Are you just worried about it getting stolen? If so why not rent a van?

You mean it's physically impossible for you or it's not cool enough? :D

Hey, Clark Griswald can't be wrong.  You need the truckster for an imposition of this size.
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Well, I'd hate to see you lose your cool driving around in a white van so what's cool and big inside? Do they rent Dodge Magnums? The board would probably fit in one of those. Better yet, leave the surfboard at home and go rent a boogie board. Just think of all the money you'd save.

Check this out.  BLAM how you like us now.  Where in Cali you heading?  I bet if you call the rental car company to set up your rental and it happens to be near surfing central, they will already have a setup similar to this.  I agree with Bull , this is up there on the different question list, but at least he's wanting a MOPAR.

Boogie boards are no fun... Plus the board is already out in California because I have someone holding on to it for me for when ever I visit/move back.

Flying into Orange County.  Yea I thought about the roof straps.  I might end out going that route since they're cheap.  I just never liked the idea of strapping something to the top of my car when I lived out there.

well rear doors fit in the back of a 4 door charger!! :smilielol:  :eek2:
a magnum seriously seems more naturally suited to hold a surfboard.   but if you're stuck on cool factor, and a charger won't hold it.. a van is as cool as a new charger..  :icon_smile_blackeye:
btw my base 08 charger's back seats didn't fold down
i live in CHARGERLAND.. visitors welcome. 166 total, 7 still around

And aren't most rental Chargers base models? If so it no worky.

Ghoste

Do the back seats fold flat in the Magnum?  I know they should but it almost seems like one of those bean counter "decontenting" stunts to sheapen the car by making a wagon with rigid seats.

Ok here's what you do. Seems like money is no object here so I'd rent the nicest SUV you can find, like say a black Yukon, then go down to one of those wheel rental places and get some 22" wheels to put on it and then it can sit in the parking lot and look cool while you're out in the surf. :nixon:

Oh no... That would look stupid  :'(  I am renting a Porsche 997 for a day though to take up Angeles Crest Hwy  :icon_smile_big:  And I agree a base charger is about as cool as a van.  I just don't like driving big vans/suvs, especially in California.
