Some of you may recognize this one. as some of you might know, Stormhammer has been trying to sell it for quite some time. i finally bought it from him yesterday.  My plans are to have it pulled to my job on Sunday and get it road worthy as soon as possible. I am tired of driving my Phord truck every day. want to use this to make my 3-4 mile commute to work in a couple times a week. The passenger 1/4 panel will definitely need a total replacement.
It is a lesson in how to do redneck body work. it was reskinned once before, looks like the skin is held on with a couple of sheetmetal screws and lots of bondo. the drivers side probably can repaired, dents tapped out and filled, and a small patch or two. i dont plan on keeping it original. the remnants of the mock turtle vinyl top will be removed as will the interior. planning on doing it hemi orange on exterior with black/orange 71 RR bucket seat interior, black interior panels, add a 72 bulge hood, Rallye tail lights, and Rallye doors. basically a Rallye clone. here is a pic of it that i swiped from Storms car domain collection.

OMG!!!!!!!!!

Even though Justin has been trying to sell it for a while, I am sure he will miss it. Your plans sound nice, should look good Hemi orange.

That plan sounds EXACTLY like the color scheme I have planned for one of my '72's   :2thumbs: That is if I EVER get around to working on it :'(

For inspiration, here's a couple of pics I swiped from somewhere on the 'net

I'm diggin' the painted bumbers, with the hideaways (not available from the factory) and the blacked out grille with the body-colored accent down the center...

And the RR Interior looks perfect in a Charger  :yesnod:

72 chargers are the next big thing, at least thats what i keep telling my wife to justify me spending more money on her.i really like the rr buckets, cool look

Ghoste

Kind of nice to see two members here benefit from the same transaction, ain't it?

Lightning

I was wondering who he sold it to, guess now we know.

Wow! :o That really does look good!

Oh & +1 on Ghoste's post. :2thumbs:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

The reason that no one wanted it for so long was the asking price. when the price came down, the car sold. I had been interested in the car for quite some time but only if the price was to my liking.

i am thinking about painting the bumpers body color as i like the look and it would save some $$.  seems like there is no straight answer on how to do that. some say the chrome has to all stripped of, others say sandblasting or scuffing will create a good enough surface to paint.

I've always loved the 71 RR blk/org interior combo and have wanted to do it for awhile.

no plans for the power train, except adding a intake and 4bbl carb.

Nupe

Looks like a cool project.  I agree on the RR interiors.  Why the heck did Mopar leave that out of the Charger's options? :-\

i hope not.  already hard enough to find good ones at good prices. i kind of liked the days when they were the unwanted step child and could be picked up for $500 and less. :icon_smile_big:

Oh boy... Now I have to compete with you too for '72 parts???? :D :nana:

As far as the bumpers, use fiberglass bumpers. And, does that car have a rallye dash?

No worries about competing for parts DCG. i have all the parts i need and then some. The only thing i will need to buy for the car is the new seat covers and maybe another dash cap. all the other goodies are "on hand"
Yes, it does have a Rallye dash. (pretty much a given on a original hideaway headlight car)
Never thought about the fiberglass bumpers. buying them would kind of defeat my low buck, "using what i already have"  approach to the car. plus, i am not a big fan of fiberglass products. most of the stuff out there is crap as far as quality. BTW, never-ever try to save a few $$ and buy the fiberglass repro front spoiler. been there, done that, tried to use it, was junk, returned it, bought the like original  plastic one.
Havent decided about wheels. have extra sets of 14 inch Rallyes and Magnums but really would prefer something 15.   steering wheel will be replaced with a extra tuff wheel i have kickin around.

Ok, so I wasn't losing my mind when my fiberglass one from Year One doesn't seem to fit for dookie.  ;D  How can they even hint at it being a repro part in their catalog?  At least I only paid about $40 for it and a bunch of other small parts which were worth the money.  Kinda looks neat hanging on the wall.  :icon_smile_blackeye:

I know Twilt you got a lot of parts. I have bought a few from you remember ;) Just was giving you a hard time. :icon_smile_big:

BTW... It's a good thing I didn't bid on the fiberglass front spoiler that I saw on Ebay a few weeks ago then.

This is a '73 I really like a lot! I even have it as my computer wallpaper right now. This would look good too on a '71 or '72.

That black R/T was on Ebay a few months ago and did not sell for $27,600..

Here is the discription of the car...

I have 2 matching broadcast sheets for this R/T to back up all the cool options. The front and rear spoilers did not come factory ordered on this car. The front spoiler is believed to have been dealer installed and the rear spoiler has been added in recent years. Originally, this car came equipped with 14" black steel wheels and small hubcaps with raised white letter Goodyear Polyglas G70-14 tires.

This particular Charger R/T was a special ordered car that was scheduled to be built on or about Friday, September 25, 1970 at the Lynch plant in Detroit, MI.

It is believed to have sold new in Alabama and from day one has never had any rust whatsoever anywhere on the car including even the trunk floor. Also, it has never been involved in any wrecks and is wearing all of its original sheet metal. In the interior, only the carpet has been changed. The seat covers are the original factory installed ones. This R/T has only traveled 35,000 miles since leaving the factory new and has always been in fantastic condition only having had a paint job and a few other improvements done to it. Things such as a new vinyl top and rechromed bumpers.

The original engine was damaged long ago and has since gone by the wayside. Whereabouts are unknown. The 440 in it now is a ‘71 model that has been completely rebuilt with the best parts and is producing an estimated 575 hp. The transmission is also fresh and shifts nice and crisp. Although, originally a 3.23 gear, it now has a 3.55 sure grip in it. It has 2 1/8" Hooker headers w/ a 3" exhaust through flow masters and sounds absolutely wicked. As far as the tires and wheels are concerned, the car is being auctioned with the 15x7 Rallye wheels and Goodyear G60 GT’s on it.

My understanding is yes - they are all the same - Legendary will even do custom colors if you pay them enough - I thouht about burnt orange for a minute once.

Boy are we hijacking this thread from poor ol' Twilt - other than the interior this looks pretty close to what we see someday from Twilt:
