Hello everyone. I am planning on having a 1968 Charger R/T rebuilt/restored for my husband and I need the help of those who actually know a thing or two. Most of the details I can handle, but as for the engine, this is where I seriously need help. According to him he wants "The biggest, baddest engine that can fit in there!". But I can't just ask him about it because it's sort of a surprise, so I need to be 007 sneaky about this whole thing. So if it isn't too much trouble, I seriously need your help in the engine Dept. because I am not engine savvy at all. Anything from a crash course to just a few words is appreciated. Thanks.

Has he ever owned a muscle car before? A well built 440 would feel like the most powerful engine ever to someone who has driven a honda there whole life. On the same note if he has driven cars that have alot of power then you would be looking at building something that would require quite a few dollars. With a real powerful engine comes the need for a strong transmission and rear end, then you need to alter the chasis. Whats your budget? This sounds like a real cool thing that your doing for him though.

Yes, he's always been into muscle. In retrospect I really should have been more specific about the car. It's not for any type of competition or anything like that. The idea is the most powerful engine that can be squeezed into this Charger while still being the type of car that can be driven everyday.

If money is not a concern, go with a Hemi (built by Ray Barton.  Google him)  He can also built a 440 based motor that will be almost as mean for less.  As said before, you will need the rest of the drivetrain built beefy enough to handle the power without breaking.  I'd look for a REPUTABLE shop in your area that is mopar savvy.  Be careful though.  There are a lot of fly by nights in the car restoration industry.  BTW, you are the wife of a car guy's dreams.  Good luck.   Bob
