I just bought an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake for my 440 (71 Charger), and after reading all the posts on this topic it seems it may not fit under the hood.  I'll follow up with this post on Saturday when I attempt to install it.  I'm guessing already it won't fit  :brickwall:

Ron you were right last year when you said I probably had vacuum leaks.  We found one between the manifold and head, and one between the carb and manifold...both on the passenger side.  This is my attempt to fix all that...I'm assuming my current M1 is warped.  Also got the 1215 gasket that blocks the heat crossover, finally.

so that means the RPM Airgap probably won't fit under the hood either...darn...well see how it goes...

I think it's more an issue with the big blocks, at least I can't recall anyone having a problem with the RPM manifolds on a smallblock B-body.

Doug, does your car have a bulge hood ? You should be able to use an aftermarket drop base air cleaner assembly with the RPM intake.

No surprise on the vac leak....that was pretty obvious but finding them can be a royal pain in the azz.

Let us know how it turns out.  :2thumbs:

Well we got it installed today, and picked up some nice power over 4000rpm.  Vacuum leaks are gone :yesnod:  The previous intake gasket was not put on very well, we found.

The only problem is I can't put the air cleaner on lol.  Ron, yes, about 5 years ago we bought a bulge hood but never did anything with it.  So that's going on next.  Just need to get it painted.  Might still need the drop base ac?

Ron -remember all the  I was doing last year about the engine shaking off and on...it's still happening!  Now I'm out of ideas.  :shruggy:

Doug, good to hear the RPM made some improvement  :2thumbs:

The shaking could be a sticking valve or ignition related. Have a look at the distributor to make sure the advance mechanism is working properly.

Hi Doug,

If it doesn't fit under the hood you could try fitting a drop base.

Thanks Frederick, I'm probably going to have to get one of those.  Even then, it looks like we might need the bulge hood.  Anyone running an Eddy RPM intake on a 440 (71 Charger) with suggestions?

Ron, thanks and yes it did.  I can't tell if it's more the vacuum leaks finally fixed or more because of the RPM intake, but the 440 is really pullin now even at low RPM.  At higher RPM, it's really fun to drive.  You should have been there when we pulled off the old intake...metal gasket just slid right off the heads and there was basically no scraping to do on the heads because there was so little residue from the liquid gasket seal.  We now have the 1215 gasket with paper gaskets, and a liquid sealent applied to keep the paper gasket inline with 1215.

Ron my builder also suggested an ignition issue, as we've had the distro out a few times to get the curve just right..he's kinda blaming that.  Now I'm debating on putting the 750 demon back on and removing the 800 Eddy avs thunder series.  We blamed the various carbs on the shake for years...heh.  I'm pretty sure the demon is more aggressive than the avs...I've find out on Sat hopefully.  I know you don't like those, but I don't have a proform yet.

Thanks everyone for the replies,
- Doug
