Anyone replace there ols rubber bushings on there transmision? I have new poly ones and was wondering what the best way to do it was? Thanks...

Ghoste

Put a jack under the trans, loosen the transmission to mount retainer bolts, jack trans up slightly, remove 4 bolts holding trans mount crossmember to structural crossmember, replace bushing (isolator, insulator, rubber mount whatever you want to call it) and reverse.

Cool Ghoste...I did not think it was too hard, but wanted to know if there was anything I needed to know...Thanks..

Once you're under there you'll be able to see better but your car has the newer style of rubber mount.  It may be that you don't have to swing the mount crossmemeber down out of the way to remove and replace the rubber protion but as I said, once you see it you'll know for sure. (and for that matter you may have to anyway, I just know that 73 has a slightly different style to the way the rubber portion is hooked up in there)

If the "bushing" to be replaced is the insulator in a cross-bolt transmission mount it isn't all that easy. If the intent is to remove the rubber and replace it with poly, about the only way to remove the rubber is to burn it out. Others may have a better way.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I did not have time today to get under there, but I think Sunday I will...The poly bushings I am replacing are 2 pieces...Both round about 2" on one side and about " on the inside...Hope it's not that difficult...The reason I am replacing is that one side of the bushings is gone and so when I shift into drive sometimes I get a "clunk" and the car lurches forward...I had it in a shop once for another reason and they showed me where it had rotted away some...I'll get under there soon and see...Then I will finally put in my new Hurst V-matic shifter finally....
