do the run well? good mpg? any idea what they are worth? should i buy one to drive everyday? what do you think? pics?

I had one and it ran great until I blew it up.  It was definitely my fault though and not the fault of Dodge.  :D  It was great on fuel too but I owned it back in the 80's and I can't vouch for them as high mileage 25 year old cars.  They were meant as cheap econoboxes and more or less a disposable car so...
As for what they are worth, are you talking about a low mielage survivor Shelby Turbo II or a plain one with a couple hundred thousand miles and some rust?  There is a huge difference.

i have not even looked for one yet . i was trying to think of a car that you do not see all of the time that i can dive every day and to let my family use if they have to that is not to big. the last time i let them use my aspen the dented it  :flame:  :flame: :flame: so it has to be small.

Ghoste

They are small, no doubt about that.

I had several L-bodies, but they are now long gone.     My 2.2 carbureted cars got mid 20's average.     Nice looking,  they will be fairly primitive driving and handling compared to even a first generation Neon.   Most of what is out there will be junk.  Since there are so few good ones, you would probably spend at least $2500 to get into a halfway decent Charger 2.2.           No matter how nice the car is, it will still be over 20 years old and potentially have old car issues = a PITA for your family to deal with.   I liked these cars, but today if I wanted a driver, I'd probably just look for a decent Neon.

I still have the '83 Shelby Charger I bought new. It's not currently registered for the road but I hope to remedy that this summer. They're fun little cars, but quite crude by today's standards. You could probably find a 2000-2004 Neon R/T and have a much nicer car that's still a bit sporty. I love my '04 R/T. It's not going to win any races, but the handling is incredible and it easily returns over 30 mpg.

They're kind of hard to find it seems. I look for them once in a while for the heck of it on craigslist but rarely find any.

:iagree:  That's the disposable car thing showing it's head.

There was one for sale on Crazed List over the winter, may even still be avail,   It was an 82, white, gold stripe, gold interior, fairly low miles.  I think the ask was $3500.  Again for that much, you can buy something newer.

i like the 80's chargers but they really are hard to come by  :'(  :'(  :'(

I bought a new 83' 2.2 5-speed. The shifter was so sloppy after a while, I could hardly drive it. :brickwall:I believe it had a cable operated linkage.

I'm open to offers on the Shelby. The passenger quarter panel is rusted, but I have a panel from a parts car. I put new brakes on it last summer and planned to redo it and paint it this summer. However, those who control my destiny have decided my time will be better spent in Iraq, so the Shelby will continue to just sit.

A 2 door Omni?  No thanks...    :eek2:

I hate small cars, they are death traps.

Somehow this...

Just doesn't have the same effect as this...

I had a couple of the 85-87 Shelby chargers over the years. They actually handle pretty well. The GLHS Omni, and GLHS Charger I had, were terrific little cars to drive, and a ton of fun. Downside to them now, is that they are starting to get a bit pricey to get into now. Wish I had held onto both of the GLHS I had, but oh well I moved on to older cars after HS.

I was always told the "S" was for "Somemore" as there was already some Shelby GLH cars. Or am I mistaken?

Ghoste

I've read more than one interview with Carroll Shelby and there was a tech seminar by Larry Shepard that I once attended and I can quote both as saying "Goes Like Hell Some-more".  I don't think Chrysler wanted a terrible vulgar word like"Hell" to be an official part of the cars name what with all the religious dangers and easily offended do gooders out there.  I think those two stating it in an unofficial chuckling aside is about as close as you'll get.

69_500

Thats what I was thinking. I thought that they had some Shelby GLH chargers as well as the GLHS Chargers right? I had 1986 GLHS Omni #206 and Charger GLHS #208.  Both were some fun cars to have.

i got an 84GLH that ive pretty much made into an 86 GLHS+. when the engine was at ~300hp, it sucked more gas than my charger ever did!!

took all the super60 parts out. now the mileage is do-able.
