Non-lockup is referring to the torque converter and it means you have an older trans.  The lockup converters didn't come along until 1978.  As for the driveshaft turning in park, it means the park function isn't working correctly in your car for some reason.

I would make sure it's in park at the lever on the trans. It could be possible your linkage came loose. If that's not it, pull the pan and check the park rod. It's on the top side of the valve body but you can see part of it.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

cool thanks. yeah the cars linkages aren't even hooked up yet so that's out of the picture. can and if its the park rod can you replace it without removing the trans out of the car?

Forgive me for asking but I just want to make sure, if the linkage isn't hooked up in the car, are you assuming it's in park or are you somehow reaching under there and manually changing the shift lever to the park position at the trans?

im manually changing the trans shifter im under the car and i shift it in to park and the tranny spins with the drive shaft.

You are aware that Park is all the way to the rear? Not being a smartazz, many assume that the trans lever travels in the same direction as the shift handle.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

72charger440

yeah it is all the way in the rear and it still does it

Could be a few things.  Park linkage is attached to the valvebody with a snapring , might of broke. Linkage rod has a spring that might of broke.

Shifter comb could be broken.  If you pull the pan you can check these.

Park lock could be damaged. Requires pulling tailshaft housing.
