After reading numerous posts on hood clearance I know the knowledge is out there but I couldn't find my specific application. I have a 68 with a '73 400, Edelbrock torker  and 750 DP. I've been running the Ede Pro Flo triangle due to clearance problems. but have come across an original 383 no snorkel. The filter that it had was a 3.5" , but some research showed that some applications used a 2.75". I've test fit using small balls of masking tape and a light amount of wheel bearing grease to mark the hood if there is contact. With this test it shows about 1" of clearance to the bare hood using the 2.75 element.

Before I road test, does anyone else have expirience with this set up? Is 1" enough?

Thanks.

Well, my stock 440 air cleaner made an impression mark on my hood insulation, I'd say that means the air cleaner is about 1" from the hood and no issues so far.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Thanks. I had seen that post. It looks like yours is a 4 speed car. I've tried one dropped base and had fairly significant issues with clearance for the kick down linkage. With the height of the torker the linkage is angled up enough to be a problem. I've heard the preformer is even a little taller. Is there a dropped base that is less than 1 1/8"? That may give a little more clearance just to be sure.

Another option is to go to a lower intake (DP4B or Action plus), but then the snowball starts to grow. Replace the leaky Holley with a new Eddy pro/con, and on and on... :scratchchin:
