I would build and fabricate and repair my ass off on the Charger  until it was road-worthy. :yesnod:

Would you consider selling them afterwards?

426HemiCharger

Right, but you should think about a car and look around for New parts to make sure you are not making a mistake by cutting up a Charger... PERIOD!!!

Sure...even if I loose money on 'em.  Just to save 'em and get 'em in circulation.

I parted this one out maybe 4 years ago and I doubt anyone would have fixed it. Front drivers rail cut out, rear rails rusted past the rear axle arch, rotted roof, pans, everything. Also, the firewall was bent/repaired poorly from an accident on the pass side long ago. The only way I wouldn't have cut it up is if I had a huge yard where it could sit.

Either way it makes good lawn ornaments haha.  :D :smilielol:

How much are you going to give me for the next one I bring home so you can save it?  Wow, I didn't know they made roof skins, front rails, and firewalls 4 years ago!?

426HemiCharger

Easy now... They had internet back then, there has been a phone book since there has been a telephone, haven't you gone to a swap meet or something?

Where? This site has been here for almost 4 years now (and the previous site since 2001) and I can tell you for a fact that most of the parts we have today didn't exist even 2 years ago. The repro parts that were available (especially sheet metal) were a joke. There still aren't many parts for 1st or 3rd gen cars.

I know many repro skins are "jokes" even today!  So fab up replacement pieces by hand even from bits of scrap.  Use the original or what you think to make the part. Laziness in at an all time high  :eek2:!!!

Your kidding right?

Ill "fab" up a roof skin, or "fab" up a fender...mind you it costs thousands and thousands of dollars for companies like AMD to initially come up with the tooling for these parts. Heck imma grab me some sheet metal and "fab" up my frame rails.

The "fab" jobs are some of the reasons people have to invest so much money into these cars, because previous owners figured they would fab up some sheet metal, bondo, and fiberglass and WHAMO!!! look at that quarter panel...all fixed.

When you have the time, the knowledge, and the money to make parts yourself then congrats as for the rest of us well be pulling from parts cars and repos....well take the lazy way out.

And i figure since i dont have the time or tools to do alot of the sheet metal work myself and i bring it to a resto shop ill be taking the extreme lazy way out wont i??

Im sorry but i find it extremely offensive to call anyone who maintains ANY classic car (weather it be with money or with tears, sweat, and blood or like most of us with a little of both) lazy.

426HemiCharger

Well its a car not a jigsaw puzzle so there has to be thought in it.  A guy with a welder and a hack saw and a press can do it or have a guy do it for a good price. It actually takes more'n a monkey to do the job

If you think thats ALL it takes to do any substantial sheet metal work to these cars, boy you sure do got alot to learn. And unless you got money to spare just giving it to a reputable resto shop will easily run you a hefty sum.
