I had a sewer line backup last week that turned into a sewer replacement. I spent yesterday watching plumbers dig out about 50 feet of trench in my backyard to replace a busted line. They did a good job though, got the whole thing done in about 8 hours. Had a new cleanout installed, 50 feet of new pipe and snaking all the way to the main. I'm just fortunate that I didn't have to tunnel under my garage and replace the whole line.

Yeah  that and water main pipe  is usually a very expensive thing to deal with. If you got a friend with a trencher or a way to rent one you can usually do it cheaper. Thats the hard part to get the dirt moved. Never happens at a good time and its always a 1000$ bill.

Had some joy myself a couple of months back... have hot water baseboard heat, oil fired boiler, in February the boiler goes, and proceeds to dump the entire contents of the hot water system in the basement. Fortunately, it leaked slow, so I had the pleasure of cleaning water up for 3 solid days. Not to mention the joys of living in New Hampshire in February with no heat (except for the wood stove in the basement- thank goodness for that!), and the nearly 5000 dollar bill for the replacement installation.

or keep trenching and install a geo-thermal heat system and get off the grid. somewhat anyways...

We have some problems with our septic tank and the county. (Of course it has nothing to do with the inspector coming during December and having 6 people in the house. )
We had to haul a ton of dirt and cover out entire back and side yard. Now we have a big yard covered in mud.
