Correct position of fuel sending unit in a 68-70 B-Body?

I am not sure if I installed the fuel sending unit in my 70 Charger RT correctly and that the pickup inside the tank is pointing in the correct direction or location.

Could someone possibly install the pickup incorrectly in a 68-70 B body so that it is upside down???....Or am I worrying about this too much?

I think the sending unit will only fit in one way unless you bend the hell out of it.  Relax man, its all good!

How low should the fuel sending unit pickup sock be at the bottom of the tank? I just installed a new sending unit in my new tank and peering through the filler tube hole I can see that the sock is about 1/4 inch from the tank botom. Should it actually be touching the bottom of the tank or is 1/4 inch close enough?

I'd prefer mine to be a 1/4" off of the bottom to prevent any crud from getting sucked up and into the carb or engine.
