1968 Dodge Charger RT Parts rear wheel well clearance

Does anyone know the maximum size tire a stock shackled suspension 1968 Dodge Charger RT will handle? Need to know tire size, back setting or OD.

we know that 275 60 15 on a 15x8 wheel with 4.5" of backspacing will work.  No ride height increase needed.

Some say 295 50 15 on a 15x10 with 5.5" of backspace will work. But my experience says...not always. Best to take careful measurements.

Other will have to chime in on larger diameter combos.

I have 295/50/15's on 15x8 crager s/s 4.50" back space. No problems at all.

I have 295/50/15 on the rear of my 2nd gen as well. I'm using the larger American Racing Vector re-issue (Dukes) wheels. I'm not sure if they are 10in or 8.5in - sorry I can't recall.

But the tires look awesome with no rubbing problems at all.

Do a search on here... there is a link to a website someone put together showing you the size and fit of the wheels and tires, and the offsets.  It's PURDY cool!

I've got 18'' x 10'' x 5''BS wheel with 295/45 on the back. Have a 1'' drop on the springs and I get a touch of the tyres on the outer side bump of the wheel house. This is only straight driving on corners no rubbing, s'pose cause of the rear sway bar.

I'm in the same boat.  I have 18x9.5" wheels with 295/45/18 tires and rub occasionally on big bumps (nothing bad).  My wheels have 5" backspacing.  From what I've heard 5.5 is too much, so if you can, go 5.25".

That Vexer program doesn't take into account the flexibility of the tire and the width change with different width rims.  You also need to ask yourself what look you are going for.  Do you want to look like those Toyotas and Hondas with spindly spoke wheels and rubber band thin sidewalls?  I've fit 275/60-15s on 15X7 wheels with a 2" drop.  The quarter covered the top of the rim.  I knew people with 255/60-15s on 15X8 rims at stock height that rubbed.  I guess the Vexer program works if you use the proper width wheel for the tire that fits the wheel well.
