came stock with a 383.
if I ever buy a new engine (current isn't the #'s matching) I'll go for a mild 440. (Yes, a HEMI is too expensive ;) )

Same with my car, but then I would have to change out the rear axle to a Dana and get an 18 spline tranny.

I went with a 383 stroked to a 496. I bought the block I did because it had been bored and machine work was done on the block and all the new parts were there to build it. I decided after reading all the stroker build threads to forgo the mostly stock rebuild and build a stroker. 555 HP and 610 Ft/Lbs of torque later have me smiling from ear to ear.

i got a 383 in mine because I cant afford a Hemi.

I'll say that the reason that my car has the 440 in it right now, is because it is the one that Chrysler put in the car 40 years ago, and so it stays. Would love to have a HEMI, and have tried several times to pick up a HEMI 500 but to no avail right now. Have also tried desperately to buy a Daytona 440 powered, but to no avail as of yet. One of these days though. One of these days.

wanted a big block and the 400 came with the car, so it was win-win.

although i'm selling my baby to get a small block, to be a better daily driver. taking out the 400 is just wrong. it can only go up!

477 CI old school stroker built before there was such thing as a kit. It came with my car when I bought it back but is sitting on a stand as the car is on a rotisserie.

I am working on getting the number match 440 back but if I had my choice it would have a "reliable" Hemi in it!

Numbers matching 383 4-bbl to go with the numbers matching 4-speed. That being said, I have a 400 block that I will be making into a 471 and will be put in the 4-gear. I will salt away the 383 for a future restoration of the car.  :icon_smile_wink:

6.1L Hemi...     Was planning on a fuel injected 440....     but the Hemi was such a good deal I could not pass it up...

70 500 Charger has a 318 since its matching and will allways stay like that as long as i live :icon_smile_big: they others are 2 383 magnums and 440 magnums, allways try to keep it like stock. But the 2 cars with wrong engies im allways tempted by putting a Hemi in, but since a engine cost like a car i will never afford it now, but in the future you will never know :D

Both cars have 440's in them at the present time. The E-headed 446 in the Black Pig will be upgraded to a 572 and the 70 R/T will be getting a 493. Neither car has the numbers engine....and i'm not much of a resto dude anyway.  ;)

both mine as factory 383 numbers matching. I always bag the original engine and build a  motor to have fun with and not worry about blowing up a numbers motor.(and i build what the cars came with originally. I dont care about date codes since i have the originals. I could never figure out why people search for the correct date code anyway, once the numbers are gone i don't care what the "date code" is.) :D :Twocents:

505 stroker because ... for whatever reason, I'm attached to the 440 magnum emblems on my hood, and I'd feel funny if the engine wasn't *based* on a 440 magnum block .... but I don't have any qualms about stroking it to well beyond that number :)  Everybody has their own funny quirks :P

This car had a nonexistent 318 and I put the 383 drivetrain in it from my rotted 383 car, stripped it then scrapped it,20 years ago.It had a BAD case of the winter rust blues.

Brock Samson

a completely gone though 440 SIX-PACK now displacing 446 C.I. with a Four Barrel carb because it was the best bang for the buck at half the price of a HEMI. I wanted a street light bandit and I got it.

1969chargerrtse

Mine is a date code correct 440/375 (11/68).  Rebuilt 20 over, all stock parts ( Eldelbrock carb ) and a nice new leaking rear main.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.
