I need a little help please

Hi everyone,I havent been on in a while.Last year I joined and asked about help cloning a superbird.I was givin an email address for a superbird owner and I contacted him.We have talked back and forth for the past year and he is a good friend now.He has helped me a lot in my project.Now I need some more information maybe someone on here can help me out.I need more information on the nose cone and the way it fits together.The headlight buckets too.I have my nose on my car but I just cant figure out all the smaller stuff.Is there a book I can get that will show haw this all goes together?I bought one on ebay but it is really of little help.(No real detail)Is the bracket that goes to the rear of the latch tray tack welded to the rad. support?I dont really see it does anything if it just sits on the support.Any help or diagrams would sure be a great help.

The bracket you are talking about is tack welded on.   All it does is provide for the back of the latch tray to get mounted.

On your headlight buckets, did you buy steel or fiberglass?   Which vendor did you use?

I bought everything from Ted Janak it is all fiberglass and pressure molded plastic.The stuff seems strong enough and very straight.I haven't had much problem with anything up till now.Just trying to get the headlights installed and to figure out all the brackets and stuff.I just want it right.Not wanting to pass it off as anything more than what it is but I want it right.The hood was actually easy and fits very tight to the nose.So far I am very happy with the exception that Ted really need to put instructions in the box lol...Although he said to call any time with questions.But you can never get him before 10 or 11 at night and with a time zone or two in there it is kind of hard to do.

  cool looks like you have a great start on it . What color are you going with ?  Engine and trans combo ?  Interior combo ?

I am struggling with the color.The satellite sport was B5 blue to start with.I just don't know.I have several blue cars now.For an engine I went off the chart.I have and love the 440 but wanted something different.I couldn't afford a hemi so I thought about a new modern hemi...but that has been done..so I thought about a viper engine...it was too long to fit with out serous modifications.Soooo I have and will install a 426 wedge super stock.And I am changing it to a six pack as well.So for my bird a 426x6! With a 727 auto.

Does that shop stay cool and hold heat well?  Do you like that rigid metal arc style shop?

Yes it does.I bought it and was very disappointed.At the time it was not insulated.It was sweating on my cars and tools.I sprayed it with DOW foam insulation and installed heat.I had it very nice all winter and only used about 600 gallons of propane and it is dry.I put in a big ceiling fan and it even helped more.

I kind of got off the beaten path with my thread here.So to recap any drawings or where to obtain information on the nose cone and headlights would really be a huge help.Thanks to everyone here for all the posts.And making me feel very welcome.

Well cool! maybe we can share a few things.I have been researching this thing for a year or so.I waited for about 9 months to get my things from Ted.But they were pretty nice parts.The cost was high I thought but what really got me was shipping OUCH!

Yes he did share a picture or two like that with me too.I looked them up on the net and really didnt sound too bad at all...and the black SB is very BADA$$ with the air grabber hood.Which I see you have on birdable too...I would have went that dirrection too if I hadent already had the stock hood.

Just trying to update my old post on my superbird project.The car is coming along pretty good.But with any project it has had more downs than ups.Has anyone else used the Janak stuff?Man if this is the best out there I am sure glad I didn't get the next best.I have had to modify every thing I have installed so far.And most of it a bunch!Nothing he sent is very well made.In my openion I would NEVER recommend it to any one else!One big question I need help with!Has anyone set up the headlights with this stuff?I have everything put together and I don't have a clue what I was supposed to use to attach the actuator arm to the back of the headlight bucket to make it open and close.There was a template for the stop bracket and also for the plate to attach the vacuum motor.But nothing for a bracket to attach the arm.I cant find any information on this part of the system.ANYONE PLEASE!!!!!I will post more pictures later on of the car.I am almost a year into it and it is going OK but sure going slow!!! But would be at a total stand still with out the help of Tom Ferry!!!!

. I used a common part and modified it when I used fiberglass pivot brackets.A hardware store storm cylinder found bracket hollow up the center and alum to cut to length and drill a hole.For a fiberglass headlight pivot bracket to actuator.Was just better then waiting for the fiberglass tab to fail.



And if you couldnt get or find headlight bucket bolts toilet seat bolts work just file the hex shape.And Larry went with GTO vac pods because these you sometimes cant get these #961



Can you post your nose cone assembly progress pictures .You do have to fabricate and modify with any kit.Some choose GTO Vac pods others electric headlights .Its you design option

Moparstewart thank you as well you have helped me a lot along the way as well as Tom.I just cant thank everyone enough.I read that thread and I see it is an old wound for a lot of people.My nose cone was OK but it was things like the fender extensions,wing and such but enough with that It was just another openion I guess.I have the actuators from an old charger and they seem to work in testing.I have built pivot brackets and have the thin headed bolts too.My stuff from Janak just did not have any place marked on the headlight assembly to put a bracket and also no bracket.No instructions of how anything should fit either.I will post pictures to update everything soon.I also am hoping someone out there has a template for the fender scoops and I am also looking for a template for the crescent for the side of the car.My quarters do not have the holes for the little crescent.

I made a set of templates,  but when you do get them from car graphics   and drill a 1/8 in pilot hole  then work up to a 1/4 bit  then use a unibit. but if someone here can tell everyone what size on the unibit is the right one.  the unibit makes very nice holes ,the edges finish off very well.   We use a unibit at the body shop when installing subaru wings  for all the fast and furious  ricer hoards .
                     Everyone needs to know  from the getgo  that most factory superbird hoods fenders noses  fit like crap. and they expect everything to line up nicely. which they do not.  You always have to mess with every facet of these fiberglass parts.   even if you had all NOS stuff you would be going nuts trying to figure it all out and make things line up good. I think the janak stuff is real good. I would have gone with the steel buckets and pivots though , Sometimes you have t slit the hood edges and reglue them so they don't stick up.  basically it takes a lot to get everything to end up with gaps like a lexus.    just don't give up . Ive done 3 entire superbird front ends from factory cars to aftermarket and theyre both pains if that makes you feel any better.


I remember one guy at a car show coming up to a lime bird we did and scoff at the gaps. but he didn't realize that we didn't go for the lexus look we went for mother mopar which is way from perfect.

Here is one of my old 80-s 90-s new stock Janak noses I got from Ted for stock.It went on my friends daytona he had since 1978.
