Hey, xs29j8Bullitt, AMAZING shop. Looks like you have everything any car guy could ever dream of! :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:

Two questions though:
1. Why was the outlined area changed? And to what? (Stuff added, deleted, etc???)
2. What would you have changed if you could do it over again? :scratchchin:

Thanks man. Again, you have one amazing shop! :punkrocka:

Thanks, but I could dream of a lot more finished cars...  :icon_smile_wink:

Answers to your questions:
1. There were changes for several reasons, for example the air compressor was moved to an exterior wall to reduce noise levels.  Storage shelving layout was changed to allow a simplified lighting layout below the loft.  Bathroom size was reduced to allow a larger parts clean-up room.  I am still tweaking the layout as the interior walls have not been installed.  I have even considered a small external building for the air compressor and parts cleaning room, but probably won't do that...
2. The main thing that I would do different would be to find a way to finish the building completely prior to moving in.  Installing the electrical service, interior walls, shelving, etc has been a major pain in the ... with a full building.  Probably would have been a good time to sell a car to finish the building.

See Allen after looking at your plan its not that different that my lay out I was working on. Although I didn't have a washer/dryer, and sink and shower set up designed for it. Thats why we have a house here in Indiana, I don't know about you people there in Texas though. JK

I just wanted something 40'x60' with a high enough side wall to put a 12' tall door on it , 1 on each end. And that would allow for a lift to be installed on one end, and then make a 1/2 loft over the rest, which should still allow enough room to stand up and and possibly put shelving up there. Thus allowing for 80% or more of the underside to be used to house cars/parts.

That's one awesome shop xs29j8!  Just half of that would suit me.  I see you have a T/A?  Just when I thought I knew what you had for cars another one casually shows up on the screen. Very cool shop!

Down here in Halifax where I work, there is a cool company that does restorations on british cars.
In the back of this shop, there is a very neat idea I'd like to incorporate into my next garage.
They have a very nice aluminum bodied Daytona Cobra, that was built by the man who hammered out the other original six.
It is up on what I believe might be called a mezzanine.
What it is essentially, is a long shelf that holds a row of cars. To put the cars on this shelf, a four-point lift, such as a "backyard buddy" is used.
This lift has wheels with locks that hold it immovable during the loading and transfer activities.
After seeing it in action, I'm tempted to design my garage around this feature!

The shower & washer/dryer, etc is intended to isolate the house (yes, we have them in Texas) from the dirt and grim from the workshop, mowing, edging, etc.  Are y'all limited to a single shower in Indiana?   :icon_smile_wink:  :nana:

Thanks, I have owned the T/A since the mid 1980s, traded for it in Wichita, Kansas...  It is FE5 Rallye Red, black interior, black vinyl top, original engine & trans, power steering, and power disc brakes.

Nope no sketches as of yet of the layout. Still in the "dream" stage right now, haven't picked up the land yet, so the dreaming of a garage like that will have to remain a dream for a few more months. Then once the land is in hand, then the real sketches can start going into effect. To start with will probably be just a basic empty shell though, that over the years will develop more into a nice set up. If we are being honest it will be just a big open barn type for probably 10 years if my wife has any say in it. She will say "now you have it, thats it"

Hey that T/A looks familiar! I am from Wichita and remember seeing a car like yours all the time near Broadway and 61st. Did you trade the car from a car lot or personal owner? I

*** Sorry for taking the thread off-topic... ***

I lived in Wichita from October 1983 to February 1986... I would have to check my files, but believe I traded for the T/A in 1985.  The trade was with the owner, and was a 1966 Coronet 500 Convertible plus $1500 cash for the Challenger T/A.  At the time I estimated the T/A was worth about $3500, and the Coronet 500 Vert about $1000.  So a $2500 for $3500 trade seemed OK to me  :D ... BUT, in my defense the T/A owner proposed that exact trade, all I did was to go  :yesnod:  :yesnod:  :yesnod:  :yesnod:  :yesnod:   :shruggy:  :icon_smile_big:

I lived at the Westport Apartments at 31st St So & Meridian (?), so you may remember seeing the previous owner... or maybe me driving to a friend's house in the general area you mentioned.  Below are pictures taken several months before the trade when a friend of his brought him by my place.   The previous owner is the guy in a light colored shirt in the second picture...  The last picture show the Coronet 500 Convertible I traded to get the T/A.
