What to look for when purchasing a 68 Charger????

Just after a little help from 2nd gen owners I have tried to search but didn't have much luck and I have also tried to find buyers guides on these cars but there isn't anything around that was easy to find  :brickwall:

There are a couple of decent 68 Chargers forsale in oz for a little more than I was wanting to spend but I am willing to pay the right money for the right car and I have found a few that may be what I am after, I know they have there problem areas that need to be looked into before handing over a bucket load of $$$$$ and as I have to fly all over Australia to check them out and I want to go in armed with a check list of things to look at or to ask the seller about prior to flying down so I don't waste my time and money.

I don't want to get screwed over on a heap of crap due to me being to keen to own one and not checking them out in the right areas and it may also give me the leverage to bargain over the cost as well  :2thumbs:

Please feel free to post some info or If you are able to point me in the right direction of some printed material or a link to a thread where this has been discussed earlier that would be really appreciated..  :cheers:

Check for rust on the body and the underside. Check for rust EVERYWHERE. If it has a vinyl top, expect some rust underneath as rust under them is common. Check all the wiring. Give the whole car a good look over.

Aside from what to look for, where to look for one is an issue. I would talk to anyone in your local area who restores classic cars, if there is anyone. They usually have an idea of where the classics are hiding.

I brought a 68 from CA about three years ago, it was quite a head....  At that time the exchange rate a lot better, there was nothing around oz to buy (well a few basket cases) and I also found, if the car was good it was sold in less two weeks of being advertised.
To do it these days I be buying in oz. Do your home work on exchange rate, shipping rates, air fares etc...... you would find the price buying in oz would be cheaper.   :Twocents:

I have been looking for a couple of years now on our market and the in the states and I agree that although the choices are limited over here that is the smartest option at this point in time (who knows that could change)

I am sick of waiting and want to purchase one now but I gotta make the right choice and need all the info I can get to make sure I purchase the right car for the right price and enjoy it not hate it as I jumped on the wrong car.

I have to travel to purchase any option avaliable in oz anyway due to being up north in the NT there is no and I mean really not one 1st or 2nd gen Dodge Chargers in the whole Territory  :brickwall:
