For a 2nd Gen Charger need to know:

For the front windshield...how many 6002263 and how many 6001855 are needed?

My car had 2 unique clips on the front windshield that were longer but shorter than the rest. The Totally Auto clip set for 68-70 Charger Front Windshield includes these 2 short but wide clips that haven't been referenced in the thread above...where do these go?

Anyone know??

Funny that you ask that Don....when I got my clip set 10 years ago for the front windshield I was told that there were 2 different clips used on the upper corners for the top trim.
I used these clips & it seems that the top piece is recessed more on the corners since using these 2 unique clips....

Anyone else confirm the use of these different clips?

I recently took out my windshield about a month ago... as soon as I get a chance i can look at the collection of clips i took off but as far as i can remember they were all the same. its a 70 i will get back with you when i can.
Restoring a charger is like a saying I heard along time ago "I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it".... Jesus I wish I could remember who said that...

Don, sorry, this isn't the best picture.. Will take more if you need, but it's getting late and the battery in the camera's about to die.. Here's the bottom row in which there are 10 of the taller clips. The others up the a-pillar and across the top of the windshield are all the same the best I can see. There are 14 total there...

Below is the first of the two Excel screen shots from the thread noted above.

The last four lines relate to the windshield:

14 of the 6002263's are needed (6 for the sides [3 each side] and 8 for the top)
10 of the 6001855's are needed (for the two lower pieces, 5 per piece)

I can't comment on the two "odd ball" retainers as I didn'y have anything to work with.

I did tell you I was going to look at the kit that I bought but forgot all about it yesterday when I was there.

Thanks Mike, Troy & Chris.

The only question outstanding to be figured out is the 2 unique clips on the front windshield. They definitely exist since my car had them however I failed to note their exact location when I pulled all the clips off.

Chris...your input seems the most logical. I have to imagine the are corner pieces of some sort to assist in the SS trim following the contour.

Just 6T9 CHGR

:iagree: Don but from the looks of my front windshield, the corners are pulled in too much recessing the trim further into the channel.  I'll try and get a pic today to show you what I mean....

OK Don here goes...took my trim off today because of my vinyl top debacle & it turns out those 2 special clips are positioned in the second spot on either side of the top trim....the outer clips were the same as the other top clips.

Also it seems like only the drivers side trim sunk in more than the pass side....that might be my car alone....hard to take pics of the difference in the clips but you can see the outers have a curled over top where those 2 special ones are cut straight across....

Hope these help

Chris, you are the freaking man!! Thanks. This solves the mystery. Now I can sleep at night.

Don do those clips look like yours?  I wonder if I actually have them in the right place....

Hey Chris,
You are right that the windshield only uses 2 different kinds of clips. The ones on the sides and up top are all the same. They are actually the SAME clips used on the back glass as well.
The ones that go along the cowl are larger as shown in hemi68charger's photo. They are about 1" x 1".

In the corner up top, I had one clip adjacent to the seam on the vinyl roof, and another about midway between the seam and the outer corner.

So Bill are you saying the front windshield uses THREE different clips?   Because thats how it is on mine.....lowers are large, sides & most of the top are the same BUT there is a third type like I have pictured above....
Chris' '69 Charger R/T

bill440rt

No, the windshield used TWO (2) different kinds of clips. It uses the small ones (same as the back window), and the larger ones for the cowl.
Just two. As is 2. Not 1, not 3. Two. 2.  :D

So you are saying Don and I have special Chargers?

Anyone else confirm???
Chris' '69 Charger R/T

bill440rt

I can only confirm what came out of my '69. I did my '70 too long ago to even remember.

But, when I was researching my new clips for the windshield all of the vendors I spoke with all told me the same thing. 2 different clips for the windshield. Same as the back glass, the cowl clips are different.
I can say that my moldings all fit fine. No "snap" issues or height problems.

And YES, both your Charger and Don's are especially special.  :yesnod:

Bill, mine defintely had the 2 "special" clips (meaning 3 different types of clips) on mine.

Plus...the windshield clip set from Totally Auto for 68-70 Chargers includes all 3 clip types.

The mystery continues....

Just 6T9 CHGR

Ah ha....Bill look at this pic of your front windshield install......you don't have that extra "special clip"

The service manual only references 8 clips for the top....I (and I'm assuming Don as well) have 10...I know for a fact I didnt drill any extra holes for this clip as well :scratchchin:
Chris' '69 Charger R/T

bill440rt

Hmmm....
I'm flabbergasted.  :scared:

On that note, get the correct set of clips. However, just in case, Plan B of only 2 different kinds of clips will still work. My moldings still sit OK.
Looks like you & Don may be correct.

I have the correct set of new clips from Totally Auto but also restored alot of the salvageable clips from the car so I can really go either way and just use the 2 clips (big and small) or add in the 2 unique clips. I am kicking myself for not noting which clips went where went I took them off so Chris' second hole location is all I have to go on.

I am shocked Don - that is not like you.  I've seen your organized garage and the storage set up you have for this project.
