What vendor are you guys using for your engine and headlight harnesses?

Ive always had good luck dealing with YO but that was sometime ago and wondered if their was a better game in town now?

I see many people carry repop vacuum harnesses. are they all the same? How about the forward harness with the lamp harness attached?

:brickwall:

Thanks!!!!!!!!
wingless now, but still around.

how bad is your harness?  you can retape it ad clean the connector plastics with rubbing compound and they come out great.  also, all of the ends are available NOS or reproduction...

the vacuum hoses from Mega Parts are close...again, how bad are yours?

nascarxx29

Before you could get striped hoses .A friend Mat Morris had the color ink and did his own vacuum lines

I think for a repop electrical harness you're still mainly stuck with YO for engine and headlight harnesses.  There are some people doing specialty ones but the mainstream ones are still M&H selling them through YO.  YO are beginning to tick off a lot of hobbyists though so that could all change.

FJ5WING

My lines are very dry and I dont want to reuse them. I saw that F Balalson offers unpainted lines. I think Ill contact some of the vendors Ive seen and see who says what.

Hopefully the repos are ribbed and colors match on the hoses

paint markers from a craft store look awesome.  My friend Steve and I did a set for his Daytona.  if Frank has the ribbed hoses you're set.

Hey Ghoste - Actually Frank is selling the M&H but tweaked to his specs and have the part number label(s) if you ask. He also has some that Y-O don't list.

69_500

I thought the M&H ones already had the part labels on them, or am I mistaken? I was thinking of getting an entire set for my 500 here pretty soon, but I figure if I'm going to replace something then I'm only going to do it once.

We bought all new harnesses and hose kit.  I have not pulled the wiring out of the package yet to inspect, but I will.  We bought the wiring through Paddock which I'm sure is the same as YO.  The vacuum hose kit looked VERY nice and had the colored stripes as the originals.  I'm not 100% positive, but I think we bought the hose kit from Vans Auto.  I'll check on Monday when I go back to work.

Danny - I don't remember the Y-O harnesses having labels. I know Frank is getting the labels from ECS and shipping them with his harnesses.

I don't think they use M&H......not 100% sure on that.

I thought Paddock was buying them from YO?  Didn't know Frank was getting some though so maybe that pipeline is beginning to finally open up a little?    And what about the Evans, are they still just making some of the "niche" harnesses?

It could be they (all of the above) have to buy M&H thru Y-O. I know Frank and Roger have helped M&H to come up with a bunch of not previously made harnesses and maybe able to get those ones direct.

69_500

I just figure the wife wouldn't okay a $800+ expense more than once if you know what I mean. For now anything to keep the car running would do, but in the future I'd love to strip it down and go through everything. Which the way that I am will probably never happen. I'd much rather drive mine, and  :drool5: all over everyone else's.

gtx6970

afaik,
ANY mopar wiring harness made by M+H is sold exclusivly thru Yearone, no exceptions . Believe me I've tried and I'm a dealer for M+H

If Frank has them then he's worked out a deal with yearone - then modified via M+H . M+H  will modify any wingcar harness and update it with the correct hose kit for no charge

Ghoste

Do you know anything YO's sweetheart deal with them and if it will ever end?  (assuming you can tell if you do know)

I asked him today. You are correct. Standard harnesses that Y-O sells have to be bought from Y-O. Harnesses that were not available at Y-O, that Frank and Roger helped engineer/develop are bought direct. Example - the 70-71 440-6 oil pressure sending unit extension harness. I supplied them an original one years ago for analysis. ECS parts # tags can be shipped with any of the harnesses but not installed for an extra cost. Y-O do not have the part # labels on theirs.

Jim I know a vendor and old friend in NJ that makes and sell Chevy wiring harnesses.Dont know if he makes stuff for M+H .But would you think he be able to get from them .Being a similar vendor M&H Electric Fabricators also specialize in exact-reproduction GM harnesses from 1955-76 as well, as does M Parker Autoworks (also known as Factory Fit).

I wonder how much horse trading goes on with these manufacturers.

69_500

I wasn't aware that horses required any kinds of electrical harness.  ;)

I know it's been a while since I last posted on this topic, but I just wanted to say that Paddock does buy their wire harnesses from Year One.  Kinda strange, but oh well.  The harnesses do not have the factory tags on them but they look very nice and correct.  Attached to the harnesses are a tag that has a web address of www.wiringharness.com So I guess that is where YO gets them from??
