We had 4 radiators for this 440 project, unfortunately none of them worked, so now im searching for a good but cheap radiator to use to get this project up and rolling.

So far i have found this:

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM-380460&N=700+4294924500+4294839040+4294810996+4294908110+4294908099+4294925074+4294840062+115&autoview=sku

What do i have to do to make this radiator fit in place of the one that is currently in the car (26 in).

Are there other better and cheaper ones out there?

I started with a summit direct fit and sent it right back. I'm usually quite pleased with Summit and have been satisfied every other time, but the direct fit radiator I got from them wasn't even close. Ron (firefighter3931) had a similar problem and advised me against the Summit rad, turned out he was right. I would say to look for other options. I found an aluminum radiator on Ebay for $280 shipped (even though I f***ed up and got a passenger side outlet) and it bolted in almost perfectly.

What was wrong with the Summit one?

Whats the difference on the side the outlet is on? I'm looking at the Be Cool kit in year one (pricey things aren't they?) P# BE82172 and it offers it on either side...

As I said, the fit was absolutely horrible. There was no chance that I was going to be able to mount it without drilling.

stock side is drivers side outlet, just check your water pump housing. I think the passenger side outlet was for something special like trucks or something maybe? still, it was easier for me to get a different WP housing so I stuck with passenger side on my '68.

Jackson is correct...the early big blocks had a driver side inlet (lower hose) on all b-bodies. Later on around 73 or 74 Chrysler went with a passenger side inlet so the lower hose location switched sides. There's allways the option of swapping out the waterpump housing like Jackson is doing with his....or just make sure to order the correct one and avoid that hassle and expense.

As for the Summit replacement rad...it wasn't even close to fitting in my car. The rad was physically to small and there were gaps on both sides as well as top and bottom. The advertised 26in rad that Summit sells as their house brand is better suited to a 22in core opening, inmo.  :Twocents:

Miller,

I ended buying one off an e-bay vendor and it fit like a glove....everything lined up. Not stock looking but it does have the tanks mounted top and bottom like a stock rad. Many of the aftermarket rads have side mounted tanks....they work ok but definately don't look factory....if that's a consideration. I paid ~ $250 for mine.
