I'm going to be setting up a '67 318 as my daily driver. Its currently a stocker 318 2v. I'm thinking this summer I'll get the little bit of body work done and a quickie rebuild/refresh on the motor. What do you guys suggest for mild bolt on performance upgrades? I'm thinking 4 barrel carb/intake and headers. What intake/carb do you guys recommend? If I'm going to have the motor apart do you suggest any changes from the stock internals? I'm open to ideas but I plan on keeping it relatively mild.

I'd consider a cam and valve spring upgrade, new timing chain and gear set, and a little head port work since you mentioned headers. Also a thermoquad carb if you can find a good one.  :Twocents:

I'm doing some things to my '73 318 so I can daily drive my Duster. I'm putting a 4bbl carb and intake on it. I already have headers. :)

Small Valve(1.88 Intake) 360 Heads make a nice upgrade on the 318 Engines, when adding the same 360-4 bbl Intake.
Be careful NOT to "overcam" when changing, it is still a 318.
Stock 340 Cam Re-pop makes a nice upgrade for a daily driver.

Some "DO's" for best results;
Purchase Adjustable Rockers/Pushrods
If you can swing it, Mill the 360 Heads, correct Intake faces, prior to installation to compensate for some of the lost C.R. (bigger 360 chamber).

Here's one for ya..

stock bottom end, mopar performance 450/455 cam,double roller timing,chain,windage tray, 1985-1989 318 heads #302 casting w/3 angle valve-job and mild port work suggested, el cheapo 1 7/8 headers, weiand action+ or edelbrock performer w/600cfm holley carb#1850. That will surprise you  :cheers:

Convert it over to electronic ignition as well. Buy a wiring harness from mopar or cut the section you need from a 73-79 mopar. Get a electronic distributor and ecu as well. Makes a night and day difference  :2thumbs:

Anyone know the casting numbers on the 1.88 heads? I have quite a few small block heads upstairs in my shop including a set of J heads for my 340 block. I have an old aluminum intake and a 625 carter thats in really good shape, a set of small headers and bought a Vudoo cam and lifter set with a new timeing set. I dont remember the part number but the RPM range is 1000 to 5000 or maybe 5500. I also have an 8 3/4 rear with 323 gears that I'm changeing out.

Thinking about eather porting out the stock heads or if I have the 1.88 heads I'll do them instead. I'v got an adjustably set of rockers that I got off an old 67 small block I had about 20 years ago. So I'm guessing I could use them. The 904 is in really good shape so for now I'm putting in a small R/V shift kit and a slightly higher stall.

Any other sugjestions?

By the way. Its going in a 72 dart swinger for my 4 year old grandson. I'll save the 340 and 727 trans for him after he turns 18.

A great mag to check out would be the engine masters mag. They do real budget builds on all types of motors, very informative. The last issue I got had an article on a 318 build with engine quest magnum heads(new heads).They make these heads in both the magnum and LA bolt patterns, quite awesome. This combo is the real ticket. But if you are trying to keep it as cheap as possible, 360 small valve heads, good duals, dual plane intake and a 600 ed. carb. Had this combo in my 72 charger daily for 4 years, and in a 79 aspen draggin wagon(minus dual exhaust for that one), DEAD NUTZ RELIABILITY.
