Hello all,

I have a 69 that is currently column shift, Im going to be putting in a B&M floor shifter, so I am going to need a 4spd or factory floor shift column. My question is, does anyone know the interchange? What should I be looking for?

Thanks!

You could keep the existing column and just remove the piece that the column shifter comes out of and replace it with the piece from a floor shifted car.  If you want to replace the whole column note that the power steering columns are a different length than the manual steering ones.  The 68 and 69 columns are the same.  70 and up had key in column.  Not sure which years, if any, prior to 68 would work.  Also not sure if A body columns are the same or not.

What are the chances of finding just the piece where the shifter was? I agree it would be easier to keep my column, and just convert it so it doesnt have the shifter or gear selector.

You can find them.  Same column was used in several different dodge and plymouth vehicles (and probably trucks).  I have seen a article where they just filled the hole where the shifter came out of.  I believe they used JB Weld and some thin metal stock.

hmmmm :scratchchin:  didnt think about the trucks, they may share the same pieces and are much easier to find at the local junk yard, thanks for the tip  :2thumbs:

Keep looking, good things come to those that wait.  I have the same problem.  I finally found a column that came out of a floor shift car that had been wrecked.  They CUT the column out (cut the shaft, cut the mounting brackets!!)  I'm using the collar and thats about it.  Got it cheap in a package of parts (now I have to resell the rest, trim parts, distributors,  chrome parts, even an old carb from a 440, I think.)

Really?  A B&M shifter?  Why?  If you're going that route, just knock the roll pin out of the column shifter and call it good.  Those B&M shifters, and everything I've seen that B&M makes, is either total crap, or looks like it.  Do their shifters really work that well?  Back when they were still in junk yards, my friends and I would get E-body Slap-Stick shifters, and modify them to work with our '69 and earlier consoles and shifter handles.  Worked great and looked stock.  Are you just looking for a really cheap way to convert to floor shift?  Is this a race thing where you need a reverse lock-out or reverse shift gate?

I just want floor shift, and I DONT want a CHEESY looking automatic column that looks like something is missing...or the gear selector gauge on left on top, clearly not doing anything at all. I may not go B&M, that was an example of the floorshift I am going to use, opposed to a correct console and shifter.

Check eBay I've seen the column you want go for less than 200 bucks. Then save or sell the old one and recoup some money. Take your time and do it nice the car is worth it! :2thumbs:
