Be aware that not all 8 3/4 rears are equal.  Some owners swapped things around.  Look on MOPARTS web sit to see which rear end you have.  There is a useful chart on measurements.

rear end codes would be on the build sheet not the fender tag, a 69 R/T could have a 3.23 gear 8 3/4 but should be a sure grip

I'm thinking that even on the R/T model 3.23 gears with open rearend was more common than sure-grip. 

Have you looked for your buildsheet? Also, have you checked your 3rd member for a tag?

The base rear in all auto trans R/T's would have been a 3.23 open.
